What factors make a society susceptible to communism/socialism?

It seems that throughout history there are many well-documented examples of failed attempts at socialism and communism in some form or another. Yet, even in with the great prosperity and success the US experiment of govt and free market has brought, we find ourselves as a nation facing a formidable attempt at repackaging socialist ideologies to supplant the core values of the country.
Is it as simple as the pendulum swinging too far in one direction and too many have-nots are on the outside looking in? Would those who are losing rather just flip the board over than try and make a comeback? What lessons are to be learned when the pendulum inevitably swings back in favor of a competitive market?
I think it largely stems from a govt that is too big and wants to stay big to maintain it power over the people. You see this in places like China, but more and more in the west these days. Until we truly have a govt that fears its people and obeys the constitution all the time, not just when it is convenient, then I think we will always be susceptible to the malady of socialism/communism.

Let’s look to the bolsheviks.
They were a bunch of young, idealistic folks who were disillusioned that their educations - largely what would be, today, considered liberal arts - didn’t yield the jobs and lifestyle they felt was promised.

First and most importantly, a total disdain for knowledge about history.
Sound familiar?

They peddled victimhood and oppression to different groups to unite them against their opponents. Part of it was true oppression and part of it was just taking advantage of peoples inherent feelings regarding of the unfairness of life.

Ding!
Pointy-headed, sheltered academics who have never lived in the real world who are enamored with theory and the smell of their own farts.

According to Marx.
When capitalism fails, it turns into a form of socialism then to communism.
I don’t know how true or the circumstances that led him to believe that, but that’s what he believes.

your op ignored currently successful northern European socialism.
cherry picking from when trade unionists were shot by the capitalists paid killers.
sure.
not only does northern Europe provide workable socialist ideas but the people report in polls that they are happy..
but you go ahead and wallow in the past when EMPIRES HAD MONARCHY AND PEASANTS DIED AT A WHIM.
tell me you would not violently fight for any idea that broke the empire?
or are you the guy who props up the owners?

All societies made of humans are susceptible. People are lazy, envious, and incapable of self awareness.
Social/commie propaganda feeds all 3 of those and promises to make them better in one of the most satisfying ways; making the boogeyman responsible for your plight pay his fair share!

Fear
Correct.
Fear leads to selfishness; looking out for only one's gain. Fear is the great disabler. Fear is the absence of love (in the greater definition). Fear is the number one tool of the enemy. Fear can disconnect us from the most important Relationship.

Foremost, the destruction of the Traditional "Christian" Family (TCF). The traditional family is the school of order, leadership and sensible values. It's where children learn respect for authority, team work, sacrifice, and basic proven values.
An assortment of radical feminist, far left liberals and athiest have sought to destroy the traditional family for decades. The Biden Administration continues the battle to eliminate remnants of the TCF. The result being in many regions the state has replaced the traditional family as the primary teacher of children. We see the disastrous results of that indoctrination in the burned-out cities and exploding STD statistics.
We have now arrived at the point where democrat politicians tell us parents should not tell school districts what they should teach their children. Parents who argue against CRT are branded as terrorist.
There is good news. America is waking up to this diabolical scheme.

The foundational whims of a particular human culture/civilization change like the wind. It is good that Humanity embraces Love/Charity/Mercy...but bad if those who receive it use it minus responsible civic behavior.
And of course, the "Cain vs Abel" thing will always exist as long as people are 'unequal'. Envy and Ego runs deep; the mythological 'Lucifer' demanded equality (with God), and felt it was worth a fight and suffering to gain it. Egalitarian Principle, is powerful: "Behold, there is a way that seemeth right unto man, but the end thereof is destruction".
Humanity will learn a lot out of the coming arse-kicking. At least those who value Love over Ego. We all continue forward into the Reality of our own preference. As is should be. Monumental time.

Not pure socialism. It has capitalism incorporated in it. Besides, if socialism was so great, they wouldn’t have to be so deceptive in its implementation
Look, we get it. You can’t hack it in the merit based system, so you want to tear it down. It’s pathetic, weak, and childish

Which of those countries “successful” implementation of socialism do you think best mirrors what we are seeing in our country today?
