What are the reasons Democrats have not legalized cannabis at the federal level?

It’s been pretty crickets from the pro-legalize crowd on this issue, but they sure questioned it during Trumps tenure. There seems to be no hesitation to legalize any poison Pfizer puts out, but no hurry to legalize medicinal MJ.

My own belief is that it’s something more sinister: the leader of that party, crazy Nancy, has way too many rich constituents and contributors from Napa Valley. The wino constituent doesn’t want a competitor legalized

The same big pharmaceutical companies pushing the vaccines are the same ones fighting tooth and nail against legalization of weed.

The average American citizen would be able to grow their own pot, government would make no money from it.

Pot could replace many medications government makes money on.

We can't have American citizens growing something that can replace pharmaceutical drugs.

The democrats never do anything popular when they have power just like the republicans never enact any of their popular polices when they are in power.

When your voters come from every special interest group around, and many of those groups are at cross purposes, some calculations are necessary to determine which decisions will result in losing the least votes.

Nancy has too many foreign donors. Since Cali had a legal cannabis trade early, they got a grower's market. But Canadian, i.e. British, companies are really suppressing other U.S. states ability to get their own industrialization going, so that they're forced to buy from Canadian owned companies.

Throw on top of that if you fulfill your promises this cycle, what the heck are you going to promise next cycle? Nah, the carrot has to be dangled in front of the jackass's face until it stops working.

Medical MJ is legal. It's just cheaper on the street.

Tobacco lobby

If we could just grow pot in a plant on our back porches, this would cut into the tobacco lobby cash stash.

I really believe that is the main reason it has always been outlawed. It is too easy to grow and process.

Because they would like to get states to put it on ballots which will generally give the dems a bigger turnout.

Nope.

Schedule I

Schedule I drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. Some examples of Schedule I drugs are:

heroin, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), marijuana (cannabis), 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (ecstasy), methaqualone, and peyote

Warning - DEA link
Currently weed isn't legal anywhere in the US.

They need to reschedule it. I'm fairly certain any one of the 3 branches of government has a path to reschedule drugs.

Because Congress is so broken and so riddled with perverse incentives ($$$) that there is no desire to actually govern or pass legislation in the people’s interest.

When they do attempt to legislate, it is only giant omnibus legislation aimed at winning the next election and raising money for the party apparatus.

Weed is legal in California.

But yeah good question. I imagine Dems could use a few Republican votes right now. Would be nice.

No they would quickly acquire the majority of the market if weed were legal. The reason why weed and other drugs remain illegal is because it keeps people on government payrolls.
