'We're in trouble:' U.S. envoy urges faster action on climate goals

By Valerie Volcovici

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The world is "not on a good track" to meet a global goal to avoid the worst impacts of climate change and must intensify efforts to move away from fossil fuels this decade, John Kerry, the U.S. special envoy on climate change, said on Monday.

"We're in trouble. I hope everyone understands that," Kerry told an event called Building Momentum to UN COP27 hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and officials from Egypt, the host of the next UN climate summit.

Kerry told the event he is concerned about the recent uptick in the use of coal globally and about plans to build new coal plants without carbon capture technology.

In November, Egypt will host the next UN climate summit, known as COP27, in Sharm el-Sheikh where the government will look to showcase its own work to phase out coal

If that is truly the case, it isn't, should he not be spending all his time in China trying to get them on the wagon?

That's stupid. You don't power those with coal. You just plug it in and charge it. They're BATTERY powered.

Do ya'll remember when the only way to save the planet was recycling? Then we found out that it's fake and 95% of recycling garbage is burned or goes in landfills.
People don't learn.

Do they ever hold these climate summits in non resort areas? I'd love to see it held in some shanty town in Rio, Mumbai or Johannesburg. Go tell these people that their lives are at risk from rising sea levels 150 years from now and that they should have more taxes on their annual earnings of $35 to save themselves. For God's sake they already can't feed themselves, roving gangs are raping the women and monkeys will bite your arse and give you rabies but Lurch is here to save the earth from rubber ducks floating in the Pacific. they're so freaking out of touch.

Lurch Kerry and these assholes are the villians in a bad syfi movie. But it is real.

Whether you are right, moderate, prog left. Shutting down coal WORLD WIDE is a disaster. People will freeze and the working class will all die of despair.

All for Mother Earth.

Someone shut this bad syfi movie off, please and remove Brandon from office via impeachment.

No, Lurch, you're in trouble. The number of people who believe the lies has diminished, enough that a critical mass will soon be reached. There will be nowhere for you to hide.

Anyone who didn’t predict that this would be the next emergency that we should lose our rights for is a fricking idiot.
