At least with Wise Guys, there was some honor. No one was attacking innocent women and children. They took care of their own, if someone stepped out of line they got whacked.

Sure. The shop owners who got shaken down got screwed a bit, but was it really all that much different than the way Unlce Sam is shaking them down now?

Well El Paso is one of the safest cities in America and is where the cartel families mostly live. Interesting dynamic.

Yes.

Which is why marxists have accepted technocracy as the means to change society. NGOs and social groups will do the dirty work that government cannot due to constitutional limitations.

I mean NOLA has always been dangerous but you can’t deny it was safer when Marcello ran that city..

they were involved in the liquor biz and convenience store biz when I was younger. The Italian liquor stores would sell to underaged kids all the time for a slightly increased price.

Cops were paid better then, what they lacked in pay they subsidized. Still I’d rather no mob and of course competent public servants that are leaders

It was safer when I was a child, but that doesn't mean my childishness made the city safe.

It was safer back then, because law and order was supported by both sides of the political spectrum. Cops could do whatever they wanted to maintain order. The mob could commit all sorts of crime, as long as they kept it away from ordinary citizens.

This. The mob run New York city was expensive, violent, and run down. Rudy Guilliana made it a lot safer after he took down the mob.

That's the difference between the Mafia and the mafias that run this country.
I don't want to engage with either one but if I had a choice I'd choose the Sicilians.

Not really. They were behind the mass importation of drugs into this country. Especially heroin and later they made a deal with the Colombians to help with cocaine distribution.

The order you speak of, really only lasted until Lucciano was finally deported then finally run out of Cuba. After that Galante tried to take over the commission and become boss of bosses.

Marcello had control over NOLA because he was the only mob in town but after he went to jail in the early 80's his reach became greatly diminshed. There was a lot of mafia related crime that went unreported before that. Also NOLA was always a rough town. There were a lot of killings in black neighborhoods that would not get reported.

I think a lot of, maybe most, political newcomers enter office with good intentions. But after a few terms their entire extended families are getting fat at the public trough. Long-term incumbency is the problem.

I don't think it is fair to compare multiculturalism and its effects to mob run cities decades ago. The mob will make money anyway possible, they don't give a shite if a city is run into the ground as long as they can profit from it, and undesireables don't live where they live.

The government might not give two shits about protecting regular citizens but they care about protecting that revenue stream.
