quote:Legit question: Where is the "line" for defining an "echo chamber?"
This echo chamberquote:
The "echo chamber" that has this thread currently at 7 pages and regularly has multi-page threads full of people disagreeing? Be less lazy.
(a) 1000:1 ...... echo chamber?
(b) 100:1 ........ echo chamber?
(c) 10:1 ........... echo chamber?
Here, we aren't (a) or (b), but we definitely are CLOSE to (c). Probably somewhere between (b) and (c), but closer to (c) among regular posters.

You guys wanted it left up to the states, now that the states vote on it and shut up about it.
It’s up to the states now and if you don’t like the decision, then too bad, move to a state that fits your beliefs. Maybe, just maybe, and I’m going out on a limb here, there’s less people that agree with you then you think.

In God We Trust was not added until long after the founders were dead. Most of the founding fathers were not even religious let alone Christian. They wanted to escape religious persecution in England, you know the whole reason they fricking left.

It’s funny that you complain about left-wingers when it’s the right winger who made the post complaining that it’s not fair or right that a state got to vote on something and it didn’t go the way that the OP was hoping.

In this post, it’s not apparent that Craig understands that time frames surrounding the colonization and settlement of the United States.
Moreover, it’s utterly apparent he is ignorant of the religious history of the initial English settlers in America.

Why don’t you tell me why Thomas Jefferson was creating his own version of the Bible, and cutting out all the miracles of Jesus? Is it because he was a great Christian founding father?

In fairness, I just want to force my views on people who live under the same governmental roof
I'd prefer the rest of you go live elsewhere and make your own rules

We try, but you leeches keep destroying your states and following us around.

Thomas Jefferson wouldn’t piss on you if your hair was on fire. His views on cosmology, epistemology and morality have far more in common with mine than yours. In fairness, you don’t know what cosmology or epistemology even are.

Can't you just imagine what TJ felt standing on Plymouth Rock for the first time
Also, today I learned the Puritans weren't religious

Tell me you dont understand the Roe v Wade decision without actually understanding the Roe v Wade deceision.
quote:
I truly believe that Roe v. Wade being overturned is more unpopular among the American people than what some may believe. This vote was basically sign #1 of that.

You don't understand a medical procedure that 95% of the rest of the world allows? Anti-abortion zealots are in the minority, but yet feel the need to restrict the freedom of others.

Europe’s restrictions on abortion are generally far more severe than the US restrictions were prior to Dobbs.
You were saying?

I hope you understand the difference between freedom to choose and whether or not the choice made was a good one. I am for states deciding but it doesn't mean I have to always like the choice they make.

Another aspect of this is major corporations throwing their weight around. Many who operate in states passing stricter abortion laws are pulling the "we hear you dear customers and employees. We'll stand up to the government" by pledging to pay for travel so a woman can get an abortion elsewhere. Lots of them already doing it. More will join.
I guess travel expenses are cheaper than maternity leave or opportunity costs of employee churn.

They don't like to hear that and they'll certainly never admit it. They've created a classic "good guys vs bad guys" model and they're not about to reflect on anything that might blur the lines in their heads.

quote:Meh. If we define "Founding Fathers" to include both those who signed the Declaration and those who participated in the Constitutional Convention, they ranged from pastors to Deists. Not really fair to characterize the entire group as any one category.
Most of the founding fathers were not even religious let alone Christian.
quote:GENERATIONS before the Revolution, SOME of the ancestors of the Founders left England to escape religious persecution. Not because they were not religious, but rather because they belonged to religious MINORITIES (such as the Puritans the Quakers and Catholics). The majority of colonists, however, did not leave England for religious reasons, but rather seeking economic opportunity. Legends to the contrary are ret-con.

quote:Jefferson was a Deist, though certainly not as outspoken about it as (for example) Thomas Paine or Ethan Allen. As such, he believed in a Creator, just not in the Christian mythology.

He considered Jesus to have been just a man, but one of the greatest "moral philosophers" ever to have lived. He wanted to study that philosophy unburdened by the supernatural trappings which had been added to it over the years. So he created a redacted Bible. I have two copies. It is a very good read.
