“What about the people who were at the Supreme Court banging on the wall. What do you call that? Civil protest, or is that a mob?” Lewis asked incredulously.

“Pretty mobby,” The Federalist’s Mary Katherine Ham chimed in, adding that if the protesters were with the tea party they would easily be labeled a mob by Baldwin.

Nothing says "I'm carrying water for a group" quite like throwing a hissy about a mob being referred to as a mob.

That so called mob at least had a permit a month in advance of their planned protest.

Mob: ok to describe groups that assemble to dance in public. Not ok to describe loons that assemble to make posters and scratch at doors.

it's called "labeling", in the political PR sphere. And it works; think "Crooked Hillary".

Every time people see a rowdy *protest*, they will relate it to the "mob" label. And the 'mob' label will influence perception.
