I suspect some of that is likely people trying to scam the system. That said, how can you guys worry about such trivial things such as unemployment at a time when those 6 million people have a less than 1/2 of 1% chance of dying from this illness!!!!

Unemployment filings dont necessarily mean unemployed... some people's hours were cut here at the plant and I know for a fact at least a few of them filed an unemployment claim even though they're still working 24 to 30 hours a week...

Nobody "expected" 3.1m. Folks were saying 5 to 6 million on Tuesday.
Having said that, that's a lot of folks on U/E.
I hate to say it, the incentive of the extra $600 a week might be driving the decision for both employers and workers. I'm still for helping people whose fault this is not (it is China's fault), but the laws of unintended consequences are in play here.

Give it enough time and every hotel, barber shop, hair salon and restaurant other than Sonic, pizza delivery places and local drive in restaurants in the country will go out of business.
