Pelosi doesn't go to Taiwan to tell them they are reducing support. If she was doing that she'd go to Beijing.
The ONLY reason for her to go, and those reasons are limited, is to offer them something the Chinese don't want them to have.
One might say the Chinese fear the public relations problem it presents in the fact it reinforces that they aren't the omnipotent force they want their own people to believe because she's visiting "Taiwan" and not the "Chinese province of Taiwan". However, they have full control of the media so that's not a real issue. It may be an ego issue (commies are very sensitive to pronouns and perception) but it isn't a real informational issue so I don't think that is the basis for their reaction.
ETA: might all be moot, I listened to Kirby lay the groundwork for her to back out today. Paraphrasing, he essentially said (multiple times) that no trip has been announced or travel plans made. So if she does back out to appease the CCP they will spin it to say it was all made up by GOP and she can't back out of a trip that was never planned.

There’s no way anyone is that uninformed on the Taiwan situation.
China rejects and strongly opposes any action whatsoever, by anyone, for any reason, that legitimizes the government in Taipei.
