US Female Muslim Soldier Raped Religiously
Posted on 3/30/19 at 6:37 am

quote:
A Muslim soldier who filed a complaint alleging that her religious freedom was violated when she was forced to remove her hijab now intends to file a federal lawsuit against the U.S. Army.
quote:
Valdovinos, who converted to Islam in March 2016.
quote:
She claims that her breaking point came while she was attending a suicide-prevention briefing with the 704th Brigade Support Battalion at a chapel in Ft. Carson, Colo. That, she says, is when her command sergeant major allegedly grabbed her arm, pulled her out of rank and forced her to remove her hijab in front of her colleagues.
quote:
“I felt embarrassed and religiously raped in a sense,”
Someone get her a Victim Advocate
quote:
“My religious preference is only to unveil in front of my husband in the comfort of my own home.”
my religious preference when I was in the Marines was to observe the Sabbath but you see I took this thing called an oath and was no longer a traditional citizen.
quote:
Although her Military Equal Opportunity complaint was found to be “unsubstantiated,” Valdovinos now intends to file a federal lawsuit against the U.S. Army for violating her First Amendment rights.
quote:
While the senior noncommissioned officer told the Army Times that Valdovinos was wearing her hair out of regulations underneath the hijab, Valdovinos maintains that she was not asked about her hair, and believes it would have been impossible to see her it underneath the opaque garb.
quote:
Shortly after the decision was made, Valdovinos says she was demoted from sergeant to specialist, and that it will reduce her pay by approximately $1,300 a month. She says the decision has also taken a mental toll, as she and her 7-year-old daughter have become the target of increased harassment after her story went public.
That UCMJ thing that governs you sure is a bit**. It trumps your rights as a citizen. Also military provides multiple outlets for you to seek mental health assistance. You have Tri-care + several free avenues available on base that no one will stop you from seeking out
quote:Of course she is from California
Valdovinos says, adding that she’s been told to “go back to where she came from,” despite being from Lodi, Calif.
quote:Rosa Parks
Mikey Weinstein, a former U.S. Air Force officer and founder of MRFF, tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “Her level of heroism is no less than that of Rosa Parks when she refused to move to the back of the bus. It takes a tremendous amount of personal courage, integrity and character to stand up to anyone in the U.S. military.”
quote:Holy hell.
The MRFF hopes to enlist the help of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), one of the first Muslim women ever elected to Congress, who helped lift a 181-year ban on head coverings on the House floor.

WTF is the purpose of our military these days? Defend the country or do social engineering? If it's the latter, just defund it and let the rest of us do the job.

I could never get my head around the fact that somehow "equal rights" means that I can be treated differently? Seriously, when did equal become a synonym for different?
She converted AFTER she joined, she should have chosen between the military or her religion at that point and she did not. She signed the paper and took the oath, and cashed the checks, if you dont like it get out, you have no grounds to sue.

Getting women out of the military can’t happen soon enough.

Why did you leave this out?
She asked and received permission to wear it from her brigade commander. Sounds like her sergeant major had a personal issue with the hijab, especially being that the reason for wanting her to remove it was because her hair was out of regulation. You can’t see her hair at all in the picture with your article.
Emotionally raped is an asinine term and she is being overly dramatic with that, but it does take courage to stand up for your beliefs inside the military when you’re a Muslim. I have no problem believing she was constantly called a terrorist, as she claims.
If you are all for religious freedoms, you should support her right to wear her hijab. You may not like it, but you should defend it.
quote:
She alleges that her troubles began in June 2018, when her brigade commander, Col. David Zinn, granted her approval to wear a hijab with her uniform; from that time forward, she claims, her hijab triggered “extremely hateful” behavior towards her, including repeated vitriol and harassment

Same thing that the purpose of NASA was under Obama. Reach out to Muslims.

I left it out because it doesnt provide any actual context.
1.) we dont not know the full conditions of his permission to wear it. Was it simply a 1 time thing, did she receive a written statement in regards to it? etc.
2.) UCMJ still trumps it
3.) Command Sgt Maj is the highest enlisted person in her chain of command and works hand in hand with the Commanding Officer for her unit. If such a permission was granted I am fairly confident the Sgt Maj would have known about it
4.) The Army isnt pursuing charges against the Sgt Major and the Branch knocked her down in pay grade. Meaning she appears to be completely in the wrong on the issue.

its called a UNIFORM for a reason numbnuts. If you wish to not be uniform when you sign up, then don’t sign up. Virtue signaling a PC culture has no place in defending this country. Frick her and frick the officer that gave her “permission” to not be UNIFORM.
Happy Saturday.

No, when you join the military you give up all sorts of "freedoms". One of those is you are supposed to wear a standard uniform.

I cant stay and pray while my unit is about to go on a patrol in Iraq. Mission comes first. In these branches good order and discipline.
If I want to wear a Christian cross in Uniform I can. However it must be concealed in Uniform at all times.
It is unfortunate but her religion is in direct conflict with the uniformity of the military.
No one is saying she can not practice her faith or wear her Hijab while off duty and in civilian attire.
However while in uniform she is supposed to adhere to the standards of her branch.
A male is told how their hair is to be cut and maintained down to the quarter inch.
A male is to shave their face daily to 0. Etc.
Every part of your appearance is a regulation.

I doubt you can wear a gas mask with that rag on your head.
Posted on 3/30/19 at 7:25 am to partywiththelombardi
When I was in US Army in late 80s and early 90s you had to be able to wear protective mask. That guided grooming standards on facial hair. Not sure if that standard exists any more. If it does a wearing a hijab would interfere with the seal. Any whipper snappers out there know if the protective masks are still part of training and preparedness.
If not you kids missed the fun at the tear gas party requirement in the cinder block house with no windows as part of Basic Training.
That darn philzilla, being succinct and all, beat me to it. Sorry phil.

You don't have first amendment and religious freedom rights in the military.
The military is damn near a dictatorship, although a very benevolent one for the United States but it's still just that, damn near a dictatorship.

Marines still do the gas chamber trip in boot camp and must maintain a qual in it annually although additional trips are possible if deploying
it is unfortunate by every Marine unit I was attached to never relaxed shaving standards for the gas chamber so we all got a little extra burn and skin irritation
