family member is married to a NYPD Sgt. in a midtown precinct

She told us in family group text that her husband said the "unofficial" new procedure for responding to a 911 call is:

pull up in the unit, wait inside with the car running for 10 minutes, if no one comes out to meet the NYPD, leave the scene

no walking around, no knocking on doors, just show up, wait for someone to come out and leave

I hope this is true. That would be a complete clusterf**k that NY further needs.

This dipshit mayor actually made it to the Dem debate stages. That is how bad of shape they are in.

Call it the new NYPD retirement policy.

Until shithead approves OT to handle retirements, this keeps happening.

I hope De Blasio calls 911 and no one goes to his door or to check on him

i wonder if the citizens know that they are supposed to run up to a cop car...

I bet before the end of the year someone will call the police and the cop gets ambushed inside there car

They may want to read Warren vs DC and see what happens if the occupant can't come out. In that case the girls were being held captive and raped when an officer pulled up, walked around and left.

right

She said there is genuine concern amongst her the NYPD ranks that they could get a 911 call and it is a straight up ambush.

This is a terrible policy, it’s setting cops up to get executed sitting in their car.

Seems like a good way to get ambushed.

I don't know about that. The Warren case one of the cases where SCOTUS upheld that law enforcement is not responsible for your safety.
Whatever goes forward I can't see any of this being anything other than a complete disaster for everyone.

It doesn't seem any easier to ambush in a car than it would if they were to walk in a building not knowing what they are walking in to

Possibly, but in the squad car, the rear cage blocks a lot of their view, which makes it easier to ambush from behind with a much larger target to aim for.

Yes, there is so much room to move inside a car.

Dispatchers should tell every 911 call that they're too busy painting BLM slogans to respond.
