United Airlines told its staff on Wednesday that those who are granted religious exemptions from getting vaccinated against the coronavirus will be placed on a temporary unpaid leave, CNBC reported.

In August, United became the first major U.S. airline to issue a vaccine mandate for its employees. Employees were given until five weeks after the Pfizer vaccine was granted full approval or until Oct. 25 to present proof of being fully vaccinated. As the Food and Drug Administration granted the Pfizer vaccine full approval on Aug. 23, employees will have until Sept. 27 to get fully vaccinated.

"We have no greater responsibility to you and your colleagues than to ensure your safety when you're at work, and the facts are crystal clear: everyone is safer when everyone is vaccinated," United CEO Scott Kirby and President Brett Hart said to employees in a memo obtained by The Hill last month.

Now United is telling its employees that those who apply for a religious exemption and are denied must get their first shot by Sept. 27 or they will be terminated, CNBC reported. United staffers who are granted medical exemptions will reportedly be placed on temporary medical leave.

SW, Delta, and American smile… all three said they would not mandate and employees have been jumping ship.

I don't understand why employees of these companies are not striking across the country. Even people that have been vaccinated don't agree with these mandates.

I was on 4 United flights over the last week. While they all required masks, only 1 of them was truly fascist about it.

Not for long, because United is trying to get 50% of their workforce to be women, which is the dumbest fricking thing I’ve ever heard.

Yeah, Karens are the only one enforcing it now after takeoff.

There was one passenger they had to ask 6 times to put on his mask. I was hoping they would break out the duct tape.

Gonna take a while for all those women to get their 1500 hours to get their commercial license.

Our nation is soft and no one wants their comfort zone touched. Just maybe, when these people leave United and those left are working longer hours and asked to pick up the slack without the corresponding benefits, they will have enough that they strike.

Employees who directly interact with customers such as pilots, flight attendants and gate agents who are granted an exemption will be permitted to return to work “once the pandemic meaningfully recedes," United reportedly said, though the airline did not specify a timeline.

Mechanics and dispatchers who are also given exemptions may return to work once United implements new testing procedures and other mitigation measures, according to CNBC.

LOL

Sounds like a great lawsuit to furlough employees based off of religious grounds and with arbitrary guidelines to return.

What do religious exemptions have to do with the vaccine being FDA approved?

All of these sheep companies are committing suicide.

With the labor market heavily favoring employees, the results will be apparent almost immediately.

Probably shortages in most specialties but the pilots will be most devastating.

You can train a stewardess in a short timeframe.

You can train a mechanic or other worker in a longer timeframe.

You can’t just throw together a crash program, no pun intended, to get new pilots.
