Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who routinely rails against the mainstream media, is reportedly a secret and frequent source for reporters in the very organizations he attacks, according to the New York Times.
Smith said he trades messages with Carlson himself, and said 16 other journalists from outlets other than the Times had all said Carlson has been a source, with three calling him a “great source.”
This would be sad if true. Seems like they are getting ahead of something else

Bingo. What they're hoping to do is discredit Tucker in the eyes of his viewers, "frick that guy, if he's working behind the scenes with the MSM", so when additional info comes to light about Jan 6 being a giant sting operation to entrap MAGA folks, some of his viewers have tuned him out.

In my mind I 'zoom out' of this story to see it amongst the bigger context picture of the message against the background of the source, the alignment of media outlet, and the audience that outlet typically caters to.

Doesn’t add up, how is a reporter a source? Are they trying to say he has sources then passed on the info? That still wouldn’t make him the original source.

Tucker is an established member of the main stream media. It would be shocking if he wasn’t dished inside information from time to time. It would also be shocking if he didn’t send it down the line from time to time. You can’t interview the kind of people he regularly interviews without getting stuff off camera in addition to the on camera information.
