Let me rephrase that-- the visible white component is STEAM. Whether you call it water vapor or steam, it's a greenhouse gas, heating the planet.

Steam isn't a greenhouse gas. This is ridiculous.

Technically water vapor does warm the planet. But calling steam a pollutant is bullshite.

Wrong. Water vapor is the most powerful and abundant planet-warming gas in the atmosphere, responsible for 50% of the warming effect worldwide. Furthermore it sets up a global warming feedback loop-- more water vapor in the form of clouds-- blanketing and trapped solar energy, leading to more evaporation-- more clouds, blanketing and trapped solar energy, and so on.

It's estimated increased cloud cover globally has increased the planet's overall albedo from 34% in 1950 to 39% today.

Almost all new generation being built or proposed in gas fired but keeping coal in the mix is smart.

Yup. You need all forms of energy generation. Diversification gives you several options and less likely to have supply shortages of one type of fuel leading to higher electricity costs. Competition leads to greater efficiency and lower prices

For an existing coal fired plant you have already paid for construction. That is a cost advantage vs new site purchase, development, permitting and construction. As I mentioned much of the coal combustion byproducts are used. Nearly every coal fired plant in the east is on a river and coal is delivered by barge. They all have rail access too. Ash is dry handled and placed in a lined landfill with a leachate collection system. Costs will determine new construction. The most efficient will win. What Trump is doing is leveling the playing field. American coal provides American jobs. Most solar panels are made in Asia. Coal’s biggest advantage is reliability. It can generate power day and night. With multiple generators outages are overcome and are often planned as preventive maintenance. There is a cost to the public when green energy goes off line.

I’m not against coal, but the numbers are what they are. It’s not cheap power.

That’s a winning strategy.

Well but I don't know how to tell you this but this doesn't make coal a villain. Steam driven turbines are a thing. Whether it's nuclear, natural gas, or coal it's the same concept.

My biggest concern about wind, after bird and bat kills. Environmental damage. When these morons leave, the skeletons stay forever. If you have 1000 towers, the farm goes silent and towers remain. No one is responsible for cleanup. Farmer or ranchers property is forever ruined. He’ll spend every dime he was paid, to give them access, taking towers down.
