Do you see the level of discourse in this thread??? The one or two attempt to debate want to argue about whether or not Trump wants a weaker dollar. How stupid is that???

I didn't start this one as a tariff thread. I started as a thread to point out the absurdity of Trump whining about the EU weakening the Euro. He is the guy that has bashed the fed all spring wanting them to do the same.

Most of the posters are simply the same ole peanut gallery posters posting predictable insults with no logic. In another thread today some posters were making remarks about how I would hate that Xi and Trump are going to meet at the G20. How could anyone reading my threads think I would be against talks to end tariffs???

You are absolutely right. I read an article today about Michael Savage and he is saying basically the same thing.

Where is the virtue of sitting quiet while those you have supported in politics take positions and actions contrary to your political thinking?

Link please.

Explain to me what is wrong with pointing out that Trump is whining about this issue?

Is it just something you want to ignore? it is just because it is critical of Trump and that is a sin of some sort?

I didn't mention the blowhard said again recently that the Chinese are paying our tariffs. Why does he say such outlandish BS???

I really feel sorry for the guy, he's likely to be the very last person on this board to realize how Trump has made our country stronger, gotten us self reliant on oil/gas/steel, brought back jobs and punished our trading partners for taking advantage of us.

Correct and most of the increase has come from price increases and relatively little from actual increases in tons shipped.

Total tons of steel imported in 2018 in the USA were off only 11% but the dollar value of it was actually higher than in 2017.

They are all making a fortune because of the tariffs and Wilbur Ross.

you elude to products YOU produce.....I'm assuming by your response, you utilize raw materials from China. Have the costs of those materials remained constant?

Not your industry.....let's discuss YOUR products.

Nucor's profits are up 275% since the tariffs were implemented.

Yes sir those 232 tariff are making us more secure---if we work for NuCor.

This 301 trade war--officially BTW--is about IP protection in China for US firms, banking and investing in China for US firms and ending forced partnerships in China.
You remain confused. I'll try again.

A company in the US heartland manufactures glue products. They sell domestically and internationally. They notice their sales are falling. Revenues are unexpectedly off. They also see a significant uptick in fielded complaints about product quality. Then they find a Chinese company is manufacturing glue in China, packaging, and marketing it identically to the US firm, using the US firm's name and identical packaging. But they are selling it for less money . . . . and the product is terrible. So customers, thinking they've gotten a deal, are unaware they've bought counterfeit product. When the product fails, they associate poor quality with the US company.

The above example is not about IP protection in China for US firms. It is about protection of US IP/patents/trademarks/copyrights/etc from Chinese theft/infringement across the globe. It has nothing to do with banking and investing in China for US firms. It has to do with banking and investing in the US for a US firm. It has nothing to do with forced partnerships in China. the company does not operate in China.

Munchin got in trouble a bit for speaking the truth at Davos talking about how a strong dollar hurts our competitiveness, but it’s not a popular thing to say

Profits are up 15X more than price increases.

You're the manufacturerexpertdude, so you tell us. . . .

What does it say about sales volume when the product price is raised some, but profits overall are up far more?

Please tell me you didn't take time to ask this question?

I have already pointed out that their tons shipped were up only 5% and their margins are way up due to prices increases.

Any business person nows that an increase in margin does not necessarily mean an increase in expenses. There are not a lot of increases in expenses when you are only shipping 5% more product but you are charging so much more for it that your bottom line increases 15 times.

That happens when you aren't competing against dumped Chinese government subsidized steel.
