No serious country should be telling its children that they were born with the wrong gender,” Trump said in the video before falsely claiming that being transgender is a concept that the “radical left” manufactured “just a few years ago.”
“Under my leadership, this madness will end,” he said.
Trump, who officially announced his 2024 presidential bid in November, added that, if he is reelected, federal agencies will be instructed to immediately cease programs that promote the concept of gender transition “at any age” and promised to prohibit federal tax dollars from being used to help pay for gender-affirming interventions.
The former president said he also plans to pass a law barring minors from receiving gender-affirming health care “in all 50 states” and intends to direct the Justice Department to investigate the pharmaceutical industry and individual hospitals to determine whether they “deliberately covered up horrific long-term side effects of sex transitions in order to get rich.”
Doctors who treat transgender youth will be booted from Medicaid and Medicare under his leadership, Trump said Tuesday, and a private right of action will be established for patients who later regret having received gender-affirming health care as minors to sue their physicians.
Gender-affirming health care — for both youths and adults — is considered safe, medically necessary and often life-saving by most professional medical organizations, including the American Medical Association and American Academy of Pediatrics
.

Trump on Tuesday said his proposed policy changes would similarly extend to education, and school officials that suggest a child “could be trapped in the wrong body” will be faced with “severe consequences” if he is reelected next year, including potential civil rights violations for sex discrimination and the elimination of federal funding for schools.

Well, yeah. Desantis did this and the right loved him for it (and I agree). He is trying to match his biggest rival.

Exactly

I'm trying to do both here - praise Trump for moving in this direction while acknowledging that he's probably only doing this because DeSantis has these issues on lock

Probably, but he’s going even further than Desantis. So now the ball is back to Desantis to move it even further. Campaigning would be a glorious thing, if the outcome weren’t fixed

I strongly support this. I urge all true conservatives to support a ban on trans care for minors.

Trump never really gave a shite about the culture wars. As a lifelong New Yorker he has seen it all. He only cares about it because the base cares so he knows he has to...and that's OK.

Honest question.

Should this be a states issue like abortion?

I think it would be a step in the right direction. You could carry that a little too far ie should legalized murder be a states issue

Y’all be sure to let us know when you have any proposals from Desantis as to how to address things like this and countless other issues plaguing the country, both domestically and internationally. Much like Trump has done here in proposing his approach to the issue on the national level. Because it’s sort of a different ballgame between the approaches as governor of a state and President.

In fact maybe I’ve missed it but I don’t know of any viewpoints from Desantis as to his proposed approach to any of those countless burning issues. Yet y’all are already certain that his policies and approach as a President are superior to all. How can that possibly be if you really don’t know??

You don't think this is a common idea among sane folks? Or just the governor of Florida.

The difference between Trump saying it vs Desantis saying it is one is a governor and one is a presidential candidate. So Ron saying it doesn't equal a federal response.

Presidents have this power not governors

it's a nice statement and something should be done. now how are you going to get the dem controlled senate to take up a bill brought by the republican house? because thats how this process works.

Well the first thing you do is contemplate and decide on your suggested approach/plan. Obviously that’s the necessary starting point. Which is what Trump’s done here. So there’s that.

Good. A little late to the party, but everybody is welcome and Trump has a big megaphone.
