I’ve seen a lot of people who claim to be more in the middle who hated what they saw last night.... and in an election about base turnout this could be great for Trump since he has the enthusiasm advantage and it will possibly keep some moderates who wouldn’t vote for him at home

great point

Plus the consensus is that Trump should have done better and NOT that Biden did well or was inspiring in any way.

premise is right, summation is wrong.

Trump's goal was to suppress the far left from getting out for Biden. It was never about the middle.

I advocated this position last night, but likely got lost in all of the DU REEEEEEEEE avalanche.

If Joe is forced to separate from the radical Left in an attempt to appeal to the middle, the there's a high likelihood of the anarcho-environmentalists just staying at home.

Granted, they take their real orders from Heels Up, so maybe there's no real change.

That is what I believe too. I think his first strategy was to debate Joe straight up and let him implode. When he realized that his real opponent was Chris Wallace, he had to shift strategies to aggravate Plugs and get him to look rude and turn off the few undecideds left.

I mean if they're basing their vote on a debate over actual results, then maybe they don't need to be voting? Biden's record is 47 years worth of dog shite. Trump has been in this thing for nearly 4 years and has gotten peace deals, new trade deals, economy was booming before the China virus, etc. He's literally embarrassed every career dickstain politician in DC.

Sitting in a fast food place stuffing my fat face and there's a table of non-social distancing, no mask wearing construction baws talking about the debate.

Hilarious. Not only are they shitting all over Biden from last night, but talking about how shitty the economy was under Obama and Biden.

LOL

It's the danger of the expectations game. High expectations for Trump and low expectations for Biden.

Trump was expected to perform at an 8 out of 10.
Biden was expected to perform at a 4 out of 10.

Trump performed at a 6 out of 10.
Biden performed at a 5 out of 10.

Trump did not meet expectations and Biden exceeded them but Trump still won.

Well said. And ultimately while Trump could have perhaps done better, Biden not completely shitting the bed doesn't mean it inspires independents to go vote for him and that is ultimately why we hold debates.

People don't want to realize that, for better or worse, that's really his best "strategy" at this point.

There's nothing more he needs to "excite his base" and the notion that there is some sort of vast "undecided middle" out there, just clamoring to hear a candidate spout the perfect magic combination of words to appeal to them just doesn't really jibe with reality and, even if it did, there's probably a single special thing that's going to appeal to a big enough collective block of them.

I can't imagine ANYONE being excited to vote for Biden. Hell, I bet even his own wife isn't enthused to vote for him.

That was an effective strategy in the 16 election when the Bernie Bros protested by not coming out for Rotten.

I can imagine anybody who believes in this country could vote for Joe after what they saw last night. Maybe Joe 4-8 years ago, but not the sad person on that stage last night. People may hate Trump, but he did not display weakness last night.

I mean, he wants to keep things shut down and raise everyone's taxes. Our country will fall off the map if that happens.

You're exactly right and I think he did a good job of that

The only people I see suggesting this are far left-wing people who also say things like "frick Trump and if you support him frick you too".

I hope Trumps advisors watch tape on the debate and advise hime to sit back and watch Joe shite himself. I think DJT's interruptions were his downfall last night, turn the tables on Joe, if DJT fires hit pieces during his uninterrupted 2 minutes Joe will shite his pants in response.
chop his legs out from under him & he will have nothing to stand on.
