Trump invited Caribbean leaders to Mar a Lago....except Trinidad

Our Prime Minister, sat on the fence regarding this absolute disaster occurring next door in Venezuela. We now have over 70,000 refugees here (thats the equiv of 15 mil Mexicans crossing the border in a couple of years). And our PM has done nothing but sit on his hands. He was already one of the most unpopular in 20 years. The opposition has been screaming for our govt to denounce Maduro.
Now Trump has a meeting with the english speaking Caribbean, and Haiti, and the country with the largest economy by far, Trinidad, was not invited.
Thank you Mr. President, you have just ensured the opposition will win the next election in Trinidad..Make Trinidad Great Again. That glorious orange bastid is making the world better, one country at a time.

I agree with your post for the most part, and I’m on your side. The only part I disagree with is that the “level” of immigrant fleeing Venezuela, on the whole, is much better than the ones pouring into the border here. Many are actually educated.

Absolutely agree there LSU. We have free health care but no other safety nets, the ones coming, come here to work, and they work hard.

I never knew Trinidad's economy is the largest in the Caribbean, typical American me, hope everything works out for them, maybe they can get themselves somebody like the new Brazilian guy in their next election.

Yeah, it’s nice to have oil.

English speaking not total Caribbean, rank is PRico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, then Trinidad.
Oil and more so gas for our economy. Its funny, Americans know little about Trinidad because we have little tourism. But we have half the people of Jamaica and an economy that is almost twice the size.
Now if we just could tone down the crime and terrorists a wee little bit it could be quite nice.

I have always enjoyed your posts. We live North of you and I have some friends from Trinidad. It is always interesting to read your updates on happenings just down our island chain.
Hope things get better for y'all. Now I am going to snorkel and maintain my serenity.

Does Tobago generate more tourism? I didn’t make my way too far south in Trinidad but the beaches to the north aren’t really up to par with tourist expectations, especially not with Barbados nearby.

I don’t question that Trinidad is more endowed than PR. That’s not debatable. What’s dumb is your idea that you can swap one for another.

One of the sweetest kindest souls I know is from Trinidad. I had the absolute biggest crush on him. I always asked about where he lived and he said I would not want to live there. This was over 30 years ago.

It's not like anyone would miss PR
And I doubt its that difficult

Hey Jorts,
You are right, the beaches in Trinidad are not typical, its more like river sand.
Tobago is really nice, beaches in south white sand, in the north the waters are emerald green. But the govt boasted about not being a slave to white tourism so they never developed the trade. That and the fact we have had instances of tourists being hacked with cutlasses, and a rape. Kinda turned off people when you have travel warnings!
Funny story about Tobago, wife and I went to the north, small fishing village, asked one of the fishermen to take us past the small, small bay to a beach around the side. Guy kept asking what time to come back and get us, and then kept repeating "You want me to pick you up at 3, at a quarter til 3 you will see me coming, you will see me coming". Wife says, what the heck is wrong with him after he dropped us off. I said, hon he thinks we are gonna do it on the beach and is trying to tell us he will see us before he arrives. Sure enough, guy picks us up and whispered to me "I see you understood me". Too funny.

Haha. That’s funny.
Haven’t made it to Tobago but I’m sure one day. Trinidad’s beaches may not be white and sandy but it’s still a unique spot in the Caribbean given the Eastern influence. It helps that I love doubles too.
