Trump impeachment number 2

9 days before Biden is president. Trump has already said he will aid in the transition of power. What purpose does this serve to impeach Trump? When does the new senate take over? If on or after The 20th then won’t this be the same as before?

Noon on the 20 th Schumer (edit: I meant Senate majority leader, not speaker of the house). Same time Biden is to be sworn in. If they convict Trump, he can't run again. Which is clearly the purpose of this. Still need 2/3 votes from Senate to convict. I don't know if they have the votes to convict.

This is all playacting. Joe will be the one who quells the calls for a second impeachment and this will be his offering to Trump supporters - “I saved your guy from a second impeachment because it’s time to heal”.

Impeachment doesn't remove him from office, but a trial would, and there isn't enough time for that. This is all theatrical and a waste of government resources so that Nancy can do a touchdown dance.

Impeach Trump. Claim that as an impeached president, his actions were lawless and illegitimate. Using that logic, impeach and remove Kavanaugh and Barret from the Supreme Court. Moving from there, purge the federal judiciary in general. From there, proceed with agenda unchecked.

Correct. McConnell has already shot this down. The Senate is in pro forma session and without unanimous consent, the Senate cannot even consider new business such as articles of impeachment before Jan 19.
They're trying to avoid the shite show that's coming. Optics. Make OMB look like Hitler.

They claim they can confirm the impeachment in the senate even after he leaves office. It would prevent him from running again. I fully expect them to do this.
