USA Today

This is gonna be tough. We all know that govt workers are the worst. But it's like firing a bad teacher with tenure. It's not as easy as in the private sector. Thoughts?

If he pulls this off, it would be single largest positive reform in the history of the federal government since the interstate highway system.

What he needs to do is abolish public sector unions.

That swamp is too deep. I just don't think it's realistic. Would be impressive if he can get it done though.

Honestly a lot of government employees depend on these jobs to make a living. If they weren't a diversity coordinator for the government they might be out on the streets homeless

This is long overdue, and I hope he pulls this off. It is ridiculous the amount of job security that civil service employees have and many would be fired on the spot in the private sector.

No we don’t. Both of my parents were civil servants, and they both grinded.

With that said, all businesses need to evolve, improve, expect more from its workforce. Good for Trump

Not to generalize, but it's pretty rare for the son of 2 gov't workers to grow up and be a republican.

One key base of the democratic party is gov't workers, most of who belong to unions.

That’s probably true of younger servants, but my parents are baby boomers. Both retired.

My mom is the biggest trump supporter I know and while my dad is a bit more rational, he’s a fairly rigid republican. Like many baby boomers, JFK made an impression when they were young, but Reagan shaped their long term political point if view.

The industry I worked for had a big bureaucracy and a lot of rules. We found the best way to get rid of some deadbeat people was to eliminate their job. Higher ups in business love to see money saved.

And it's ironic that the ones in DC get paid enough the donate the individual maximum to the presidential candidate of their /cough/ choice. fix that.

As a DOD Civilian at Redstone Arsenal, I can honestly say that 90% of the civilians that work in weapon systems project offices bust their butts everyday. I have worked in the private sector and have seen a comparable percentage of workers there that bust their butt as well.

All industries and the Government could stand to improve how they tolerate poor performance. The advantage I see for the private sector it is easier to fire people than it is for the Government.

Not nearly as true as you might think. I'm nearly 35 years a union member and I'm a staunch Republican. Many definitely wanted NO PART of Hillary.

That needs to happen and happen badly. WAY too many “democrats” that get civil service jobs “just because”. And it’s not like a ton of them are actually qualified. They get it for one reason and one reason only.

I worked as a contractor at NASA/Houston from 1964-1995. The NASA employees were as hard a working group as any private practice employees I have ever seen. When the first wave of Affirmative Action hires came along, NASA didnt have to hire any but all the contractors did. We obtained some curious stories in that arena.

I'm hoping Trump does this to get rid of Due Process.

I wanted to read the article, but a full page ad popped up so I didn't.

Either way, civil service reform needs to happen badly. The 'rank and file' 'government at all levels is full of the most incompetent people imaginable.
