Trump getting rid of a federal agency

President Trump is planning on using his executive powers to remove a federal agency, in line with his administration's goal of cutting wasteful spending and inefficiencies, the Washington Post reports.
The big picture: By the fall, the Office of Personnel Management anticipates an executive order that will break up the agency and, at first, assign its responsibilities to 3 different departments. The administration reportedly does not intend to lay off any of its 5,565 employees, but will eventually shrink its workforce through retirements and unfilled vacancies.
The Defense Department would take over background checks for government job applicants.
The General Services Administration would manage human resources tasks like training, payroll and the inspector general's office.
The Office of Management and Budget would handle "high-level policies governing federal employees," per the Post.
Why it matters: Labor activists say moving federal employees closer to the White House would signal a "dangerous" politicization of the civil service. But the Post notes that both the Obama administration and Hillary Clinton's campaign in 2016 considered doing the same, especially after Chinese hackers stole more than 20 million personnel records in a massive cybersecurity breach in 2015.
Now just get rid of a few more, but this is a nice first step

Gotta get your toes wet before jumping in the deep end.

This will be ruled unconstitutional by some activist Obama appointed judge.
They fact that they didn't do it means that they meant for it to always be around, and, well, Trump just can't do it.

Would love to take out CFPB as well, roll their responsibilities into the treasury... would be great just for the Elizabeth warren melt

Considering the amount of PII that OPM has allowed to be compromised it should have been gone a long time ago.

Yours and everybody else with a background investigation. That stuff is so valuable - way more than a credit report or a tax return - the best way to steal someone's identity with enough information to pretend to be that person without knowing him is to steal his background investigation/security clearance files.

OPM currently contracts a lot of this process out.

OPM needs to go, they allowed some foreign hackers to access mine and millions of other Americans personal information. What truly pisses me off is that my records were over 20 years old and should have been purged......just another example of an irresponsible federal bureaucracy.

Another Carter-era shitshow bites the dust.

Meaningless. If you wipe out every federal agency we run a deficit in most years due to defense, social security, medicare, medicaid, and interest on the debt.
The focus should be on entitlement and defense spending reform where some impact on the deficit can be made. Once that is done then you can start to streamline and eliminate the federal bureaucracy.

Could you provide a link?
This is important to the few FedGov leeches on this board.
I guess this means that GSA would then handle benefit and retirement issues (we have quite a few employees who are retirement eligible or nearing it and this is important so they don't get screwed on their pensions).

And it has been a sick joke. One person has been interviewed three times, asking the same questions every time.

Break it up but not shed and positions? How does this actually shrink anything? I know Gov't will fight tooth and nail to maintain it's own existance...but it will never die on the vine, someone will bring it back later.
