President Trump on Sunday called for Senate Republicans to trigger the so-called "nuclear option" if the government shutdown continues and pass a long-term budget with 51 votes.
"Great to see how hard Republicans are fighting for our Military and Safety at the Border. The Dems just want illegal immigrants to pour into our nation unchecked," Trump tweeted.
"If stalemate continues, Republicans should go to 51% (Nuclear Option) and vote on real, long term budget, no C.R.’s!" he added, referring to a stopgap spending measure known as a continuing resolution. LINK

The Dems would do this day one. No interest in negotiation.

A bit conflicted here, I hate that it exist and was against the weapon when Dirty Harry brought it out, but Damn I wish they would do this and then muster enough votes to abolish it till the end of time.

Because that won't come back to haunt the R's.

That would be a check mate . Democrats would have no leverage for DACA . I am surprised he does give democrats a public invite to meet and get a long term government budget agreement done with out DACA . It show the public that democrats are the ones shutting the government down over illegals.

So the dems get nothing and get blamed for the shutdown, while Trump and Republicans become heroes by taking matters into their own hands and ending the shutdown. WINNING!

Why’s that? If we don’t do it, the democrats won’t do it if they ever get back in power?

Hopefully he consulted McTurtle and he knows he has 51 votes counting Doug Jones’s symbolic CYA gesture.

Is it 51 or 60 to pass an actual budget instead of a CR? Serious question.

This is a masterful move by Trump. When the dems realize that they are getting nothing and that they are going to look terrible if the Republicans have to unilaterally stop the shutdown, they will opt for the get nothing but not look terrible alternative.

Yeah, those honorable Dems would never use a tactic like that if it weren't for the evil republicans. Do you hear yourself?

The tweet could be seen as the Republicans have the power to stop the shutdown right now but are choosing not to stop it.

McConnell promise a vote by 1am Monday morning.

I assume that's when they would use it.
