The 100 dollar bill is the most used bill here (its worth roughly 16 dollars US).

The govt just announced last week they are changing it and effective Jan 1 the old bills will be of no value.

Its the 14th of December, I have been in dozens of stores since this was announced, as well as the bank, and have only seen the new bill once.

Massive lines at the banks, stores refusing to take the old bills, govt threatening businesses for not accepting the old bills, all during the busiest shopping season of the year.

The theory of doing a sudden change was to catch drug dealers short when they could not turn in large amounts of cash without scrutiny. Problem is, Ive seen many documentaries on drug lords......and not a one of them was doing deals with Trinidad dollars..........

In the meantime, Im buying a lot of packs of gum with 100 bills to get them exchanged.

Sweet T&T

But, seriously, are they changing the currency or just replacing the TT$100 bill?

Changing the bill not the currency, like Venezuela does every other month.

But what a royal pain in the arse. A lot of bitching and moaning if you try and pay with the old bill, when thats most of what is out there, including what is coming out of ATMs.

So if you need cash and you dont want 100 dollar old bills, you have to stand in line for hours to ask for 20s.

Typical lack of thought process when changing something.

Nah, but I did see some conch shells last week at Pigeon beach in Tobago, taking a little break from work with a few cold ones checking out those tourists covered in oil...hows the weather there....

Beautiful here today, just had to move some lumber around in the yard, didn't even break a sweat. Around 63 degrees is perfect weather to me.

I'm just spitballing solutions, but any way to buy gift cards with the old bills?

Or, conversely, buy traveler's checks or money orders?

I'm just trying to get you baws past 12/31, but may be thinking in First World terms.

Good luck.
