He is leaving Congress, so on the way OUT (pun intended!) he decides to be a shill for Mueller, Obama, Schiff, Holder et al.
“President Trump himself in the Comey memos said if anyone connected with my campaign was working with Russia, I want you to investigate it, and it sounds to me like that is exactly what the FBI did. I think when the president finds out what happened, he is going to be not just fine, he is going to be glad that we have an FBI that took seriously what they heard.”
“I am even more convinced that the FBI did exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do when they got the information they got, and that it has nothing to do with Donald Trump,” Gowdy said.

Gowdy, at his heart and soul, is a prosecutor. I'm not entirely certain he believes it's possible for law enforcement to go off the reservation.

This is what I think. I believe that Gowdy believes that the FBI can do no wrong and there is no way in hell they could ever be political.
It's stupid, but I think he really believes it.

I think Gowdy is throwing the special counsel a bone. He's trying to make sure that the investigation doesn't go off the reservation. Mueller can go one of two ways at this point. He can close the investigation and say that they did not find anything relevant to influence in the election, or he could find something in Trump's past to charge him with and muddy the waters. Gowdy is trying to send a message to Mueller that Mueller does not have to come back with charges against the president.

How long into the spying on Trump, without his knowledge, did Trump say that? Sounds like they are retro-fitting the excuses.....
