Toll Bridges in Louisiana: "We Comin'"
Posted by tigerpawl on 4/17/21 at 9:21 am40
Move over, Lake Pontchartrain and Leeville. Here come the new toll-bridge kids on the block:
PPP Begins Work On New Belle Chasse Bridge
La. delegation urges approval of grant to replace I-10 bridge [Lake Charles]
The DOTD is broke. $$Billions in backlog. Watcha gonna do?? The minute it's revealed that the PPP bridge builder will make a (pre-construction contractually negotiated) ROI on the tolls, the sky-screamers will seize the day. And no - there will not be any physical toll booths.

LA needs to get with the program if we want infrastructure progress. KY built its entire intrastate parkway system in the 60's and 70's as toll roads and paid them off by the early 80's and dozed out the toll booths. All roads have been free access for >35 yrs now
We dont have shite here in LA to get around this state especially north and south
All the roads labelled parkway in the map below were built as toll roads

KEY word ... this is Louisiana and I just had a conversation with someone about this. I'm NOT in favor based on past history of theft and corruption and shite NOT getting done.

No problem with lower taxes and the concept of usage fees. Just wish they applied that to all government services. The problem here is that taxes will NOT decrease.

Sure, it can be done. Do you think Louisiana will replicate that?

This.
Beltway 8 was paid for decades ago. All the toll does now is keep the buses treading water.

quote:The independent PPP builder will be monitored by the state. The shite WILL get done because the PPP bridge builder has deeper pockets than the DOTD and they will pay for, build, AND MAINTAIN the bridge. They can start tomorrow and won't have to go beg for more $$ in Baton Rouge and bypass the customary Huey Long/Edwin Edwards political lunacy that you still wrongly presume exists.

Great knee-jerk generalization, but it doesn't hold water. The sky-screamers are showing up early, I see.

No, people just want to complain like they do in BTR about the bridge issues...

You think it doesn't still exist?

You think?

Would you consider Louisiana to be:
1. Better run and less corrupt than Texas,
2. About as well run and about as corrupt as Texas,
3. Worse run and more corrupt than Texas
(I'll hang up and listen.)

LOL, this is Louisiana. That is NOT what it means.

Public Private Partnerships (Podcast) Of course, they're not from this 3rd-world state. They just don't understand - they're not "one of us".
