The hosts basically were against it.

When posed the question about removing the gene that may cause a disease, the response was basically ‘there are options already for that embryo’. I assume this meant aborting said embryo.

I find it odd that people that would allow pro choice issues to influence their vote would also be against any other reproductive rights.

Killing is better than fixing.

To be fair, I think a lot of people on both sides are very uneasy about unabashedly playing God in that way.

When I need guidance on bio-ethics I turn to the Today Show.

Agreed. There are some definite good things that could come from such tinkering (healthier, longer-lived, more athletic, more intelligent, etc) but it's a definite Pandora's Box.

I could see future scenarios working out where such modified children were ostracized in society, but later after it became more accepted I could see non-modified children being the ones ostracized (maybe even to such a point that modification became as mandatory as vaccine shots for school enrollment).

I think that’s actually a pretty interesting argument I’d like to hear a prog defend.

If you are pro choice then I assume you are also for genetic engineering of the baby to be white, male, straight, blonde, athletic and with a 10” mule cock? Reproductive rights after all.

I am fairly liberal(as conservatives go) regarding a womans right to choose....I just find it pretty hypocritical to decide that a woman can terminate a pregnancy for any reason at all yet get squeamish at the thoughts of modifying an embryo that will live.

I don't believe that the scientific community is too sure about what would happen if they genetically engineered or altered an embryo.

I always get the sense that if we tweak one thing or another it will lead to a domino effect of unclear results.

They have no problem doing it to our food supply, cloning animals, etc.

If they leave it to chance, we may not be able to feed everyone off the results of the very small number of producers.

We need corn that produces like crazy and pigs and cows and chickens to grow big as hell and stay healthy
