To test a universal basic income program, Yang is giving two families, one in Iowa and one in New Hampshire, $1,000 a month out of his own pocket, according to CBS News. Yang is running as a Democrat and both states are early primary contests for the 2020 presidential nomination.

A universal basic income, which Yang calls “The Freedom Dividend,” would help alleviate poverty and address the disruption from AI and automation, according to his campaign website.

That's nice but they aren't demanding a 1:2 ration they're demanding at worst a 90%:10% or 99:1. Neither of which are sustainable. They also want to cap income. Nice pandering horseshite virtue signaling nonsense though.

Sounds like vote buying to me. That's illegal. At least it has been in the past but who knows nowadays.

While true, is it economically feasible to do this on a large scale? I can't see how.

These Dims truly don't understand biology or economics. People will have to adapt to their new reality. Economically just printing money and giving everyone some cheese will not work out as they think.

Politicians cant pay for the crap we do now!

Pretending that we could pay for some new great expenditure is unbelievable.

How is that a test of a universal basic income program?

This gives you no usable info.

I was coming here to post this. How will this stop billionaires in the future from giving a bunch of leaches $50/per month to assure their vote.

Don’t many single mothers on benefits bring home a lot more than that?

The day universal basic income is passed (rumored Dims want it to be ~$2500 a month per person) is the day I giving my employer my two weeks notice and begin packing up to move to an area with a low COL. No fricking way I’m gonna be a sucker who works to have half my income taking away to prop up welfare queens.

From the article...

Yang also rans his plans through the Federal Election Commission, “and they said as long as it’s my personal funds, and it’s a personal gift with no strings attached, they have no issues,” he told Fox News.

I think UBI will become necessary but I don’t think it should be handled as a cash payment, it should just be “here is food and housing”.
Giving people money is just a fools errand.

No. Because the very next election cycle everyone will be running on how much they're going to raise the UBI.

I disagree, only because it creates a whole new level of bureaucracy to provide food and housing as opposed to cutting a check

If people want to blow it, let them blow it. UBI should end other welfare programs, not supplement them.

I see where you are coming from. I guess my scenario occurs sometimes after automation has made millions of jobs obsolete and we are trying to prevent mass revolt and rioting.
