They just argue with each other and pick the pocket of the average American and benefit the wealthiest corporations, while blaming the other side for what ails us. If we really want to drain the swamp in Washington maybe we need to get back to a government where the elected officials actually represent their constituents again?

Political parties are simultaneously inevitable and also carry some pretty bad stuff with them for a democratic nation. They promote tribalism, can tend to discourage real dialogue, and have been a source of corruption for long stretches of this nations history.

That is what people did when they chose Trump. Trump is actually doing what a president should do and we have the clowns on both sides arguing with each other. Mitt Romney is a deep state piece of shite that is trying to position himself to run against Trump in 2020 and I hope God decides to take him out of the race. frick that scumbag mother fricker. He and Paul Ryan are trash just like McCain and the Bush family!

They’re so firmly entrenched into the system that the first to attempt to break away will be absolutely obliterated by the opposition - and I don’t want the Democratic Party gaining supermajority of our government for an entire generation. That would be the end of our country.

The best we can do now is better use our primary system. This is really what sets our “two party” system apart from a true two party system. It allows people like Trump to occasionally come to power if the will of the people is strong enough. That’s what we need more of.

George Washington said political parties would be the downfall of this nation. A very astute observation I'd say.

Nice case. Your plan specifics are lacking. What should we do as individuals since we cannot control other people?

you can say that this power is already in the people's hands and that we are where we are because of poor choices by the voters

That is the correct question.

Certainly a move to anarchy is not the answer and if carried to their current course the Democratic Party will evolve to socialism or communism while the Republican Party will evolve to facisism or some form of corporate monarchy like what we fought King George to get away from.

As an individual use the powerful tool sitting on top of your shoulders...

Think for yourself over group think or the talking heads of 24 hour "news".
Act and react at the local level.
Engage in real discussions over the soundbites of Facebook and Twitter.
Support moderate policies over the extremes of the far left and far right.
Stop being sheep and lemmings and become lions, tigers and bears again.
Demand solutions over retoric that fuels divisions, fear, and hate.
Demand answers and no longer accept "blame the other side" as acceptable.

I feel sure I do not have an exact answer but I do feel the spoon fed answers being offered up by the far left and the far right will kill this country my ancestors fought and died for to create and protect. This country was started by individuals who banded together with other individuals until they created a mass of unity to overpower the wealth and privilege of colonial rule.

If we continue to fight and divide among each other we will be under the colonial rule of China in a generation or two. To fight to prevent this means being involved and no longer siting on the sidelines while the media (left or right) lulls us to complacency with drama over logic.

I think that is an easy answer but is valid in the sense that more folks in the middle are dropping out from voting or voting based on who runs the most ads attacking the other side. I find it startling that in a country so large and diverse our top leaders usually come from...

Elite Education
IVY schools
Near IVY schools (like Stanford, Duke, and other top private schools)
Service academies

Elite Wealth
Elected leaders from the top 1% of the wealth in the USA

Elite Social Contacts
When Bush Jr (R) defeated Kerry (R) for the POTUS, both were members of Skull & Bones at Yale university!

For a country unlike most in the world that was built with a middle class it seems odd we do not have leaders actually leading it from the middle class. The more the extremes views use the power of mass merchandising (commercials and such) the more the middle class seems to be dropping out and not voting anymore.

Same as it ever was in any corner of the world through history.

Even in Communist nations with so called 'equality' for all.

Don't see any chance this country will ever recover from the fracturing. The differences that separate the far left leaning democrats from the Conservative wing of the Republican party can never be resolved. My fear? The RINO leaning Republicans (Mitt Romney et al) will simply surrender to the ultra-liberal democrat party and essentially give them what they want, starting with a strong so-called "bipartisan" effort to oust DJT from office. IMO the fix is in......Donald J. Trump has to go.

Not good.

Really? How much money should I send to Mitt Romney and Susan Collins for their re-election campaigns?

Healthcare plans?
Nah.

And you're wrong again (as you always are). The Trump plan was to oust Obamacare. The republicans in Congress wimped out.
Pre-empt for non-thinkers: There doesn't need to be a 'replacement plan'. Prior to Obamacare we had doctors, nurses and hospitals. I was there. I saw it. It was amazing.

In perhaps a more perfect world, we'd at least have significant parties for:

Fiscally and socially conservative
Fiscally conservative, socially liberal
Fiscally liberal, socially conservative
Fiscally and socially liberal

The idea that we need just one more significant party is not enough but it might also be the most realistic possibility to happen with the right leader who wins the Presidency and then grows that party from there.

Sure we had a system.

You are ignoring Trump's statement that there is a plan but we can only see it if the house is red.

Trump wanted the very first house version. It didn't even get a vote. He just wanted something, anything.

We need people to stop voting in scum. The name of the political party will not matter in the end. Elect scum to political parties and that party regardless of name will be scum.

The dims party was the first to fall. Today there probably isn't a single honest democrat in congress.

Then they (DS) set there sights on the republicans and have been inserting ds scum in the republican party for decades as well as judges!

Trump picked the least scummified party to run under. Few republicans that are not compromised are actually part of the republican congress.

Trump can only run for 1 more term. After that the training wheels are gone. If the public hasn't come to its senses by then and start using their brainpower to identify DS scummy politicians then all the good that Trump is moving towards will be lost!

That's why I am afraid that there are too many dummies in this nation now to sustain the momentum.
