Had a conversation today about what to do after a justified and good defensive shooting and it was suggested that getting the hell out of there and making the police identify you would be the best thing to do (unless it's just going to be easy to find out who you are which would be a lot of cases but not all).

If they never do identify you then you don't have to worry about hiring a lawyer, the woke mob, the media etc. If they do find you,

What are your opinions?

When the law is different for different people and when justice is politicized, then citizens no longer owe a damn thing to the authorities

Call the cops
Call a lawyer

Keep your fricking mouth shut until your lawyer arrives.

Then continue to keep your mouth shut.

If your cell phone is on then call the cops.

That's what I was thinking and if they do identify me I'll lawyer up immediately and not say a word but I see no need to get rush to that step

I get that it won't look great but these days I don't think it would hurt either

very good point

even if it's off, it would need to be in a lead-lined phone bag to be sure

What the hell are you talking about? Leaving the scene of a justified use of your right to defend your own life? No. Must have been a genius who thought of that one.

Chances are you are going to have to defend your freedom in court if you use a weapon to defend your life. Think about explaining to a jury that you believed your life or the life of a loved one was in imminent danger, so you shot someone, but then you behaved exactly like a criminal and beat feet after doing so.

I think people should use their brains, and realize that the police have neither your best interests, nor your Constitutional rights at heart. You are under no obligation to answer questions or offer any information, and I would bet most lawyers would tell you not to say one word to anyone. But that doesn’t mean to flee the scene.

Join something like the USCCA. They have lawyers that specialize in that stuff.

This should be the case.

But we've seen what happens to people who defend themselves.

Kyle Rittenhouse and the St. Louis attorney for example.

In the vast majority of circumstances, it's not an option. Houses and businesses have cameras all over.

You would have to be way out in the boonies to have a chance.

Prob depends on the state.

But call 911 giving as little info as possible. If you call saying you killed someone they will use that against you in court.

Call a lawyer and then shut up.

I guess every situation is different, but the only time I’m leaving the scene is when I believe lives are still in danger, and even then I’m leaving to the nearest safe spot to contact the police.

I agree that your route is more honorable.

An honest criminal justice system would go a long way to encourage people to do that.

But, when that system is weaponized against honorable people, they must do what they have to do for self preservation.

Also call for 2 ambulances, one for yourself. Better for you to go away in an ambulance than a cruiser. Say nothing other than you were in feat of your life and you need an ambulance to take you to the hospital. Let the lawyer handle anything else.
