I like it, but I would prefer saying "aimless" over "useless."
"Aimless" implies a lack of personal motivation, direction, and fulfillment, and I think fits the bill much better here.
"Useless" implies some sort of genetic disposition to being useless. It's an unnecessarily inflammatory descriptor in an otherwise very true and poignant statement.

As a theoretical argument you are correct. Most activists just want to feel important and do something and that goes to activists on both sides.
But in reality there are FAR more activists on the left than the right.
