This writer wants to 'splain to you why white people don't want moral politicians

One of my FB "friends" linked this article. It's from something called "Sojourners". I literally haven't seen or spoken to this woman in about 30 years, but somehow she found me on Facebook and every now and then some garbage like this shows up on my FB page.

This week, Newsweek published polling data showing that “nearly 40 percent of Evangelical Christians in Alabama say they're now more likely to vote for Roy Moore after multiple allegations that he molested children.”
Surprised? You shouldn’t be.
Last October, a PRRI/Brookings study found that white evangelicals were increasingly likely to support politicians who commit immoral acts. According to the poll, 72 percent of white evangelicals at the time believed that private immorality does not disqualify a public official from fulfilling their duties in the public sphere — an increase from only 30 percent in 2011. This trend is as worryingly significant now as it was then, especially in light of the Alabama Senate race and its disturbing revelations about many leaders’ and voters’ priorities.
It seems that something has changed about the way that a majority of Christians, specifically white Christians, see the figures they choose to represent them. Our optimism about the conviction of conservative morals went unrewarded with the election of Donald Trump, even after he bragged about sexual assault on tape, and continues to seem unfounded as Christians support a candidate in Alabama who by all standards should have been immediately disgraced and discarded as the allegations against him were released.

They are trying to shame conservatives into changing their vote to who the establishment wants to win.

Charles Martel was accused of sexual harrassment, but damned if that was going to stop his lionization by Christians everywhere.
This is like that.
This is like that.

Uh.. Christian's aren't voting for people like Trump or Moore because they do these immoral things (allegedly), but because we are pragmatic and think that these immoral people (all people are immoral in one way or another) are still the better option in a field of bad options.
Does this person think that Christians should just sit out because Jesus isn't on the ballot? Should we vote for the likes of Hillary or other anti-Christian liberals who don't share our values? Of course not.
And why are Christian's "more likely" to vote for Moore after the allegations? It's because they believe that it's a smear tactic against a man who has been a public figure for a long time who has stood up for Christian principles more recently than the allegations of 30 or 40 years ago.
The left just doesn't get it.
ETA: Christians also understand the concept of forgiveness for sinners who confess their sins and repent of them.

They probably get it but just don’t care about the truth.

When their only other choice is a baby killing, sodomite loving, non god fearing Democrat then obviously they will vote for the lesser evil.

Exactly, "progressives" are more coordinated than most people recognize. Bureaucracy, media, non-profits, etc. There is a cultural war going on and 'Soujurners" do their part as "progressive" christians.

This. All of it.

What is really strange is that the left is always complaining about Christians trying to force their morals on people. But then they turn around and want Christians to use their morals when it comes to judging the behaviors of people they don't like?
So which is it?
So which is it?
