You cant continually threaten and coerce Trump accts, people around him, in hopes of finding something, anything illegal.

The AG needs to step in and threaten legal action against some of these clowns in the house. Im sure there are half a dozen fed laws he can come up with to charge them with. It would stop this nonsense.

And if they think they have emoluments evidence, if any of their investments, 401Ks or pensions have invested any money in any company that has benefited in any legislation that was passed (whether they voted for it or not) they are guilty and should be charged. Im pretty sure corp America benefited from the tax cut, the house and senate passed it, so they are ALL guilty of emouluments violations, Trump did not vote on it, hmmm so lets start there.

I like the deadline they set, as if there is anything they can do if Trump ignores their deadline. Other than bitch and moan of course.

Already has, April 10.

House Democrats on Saturday increased their demands for the IRS to give them access to President Trump’s tax returns -- foreshadowing a lengthy legal battle in the courts

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal, D-Mass., told the IRS that the law gives Congress a right to the six years of Trump’s personal and business tax returns, and set a deadline for the agency to respond by April 23.

Neal told IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig that if he does not respond to his letter, Neal will interpret that as denying the request, setting the stage for a potential court battle.

The Treasury Department missed an April 10 deadline last week set by Democrats to deliver the tax returns, and Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the department hadn’t decided whether to comply with the request.

“It is not the proper function of the IRS, Treasury, or Justice to question or second guess the motivations of the Committee or its reasonable determinations regarding its need for the requested tax returns or return information,” Neal wrote.

The letter marks the latest in a yearslong effort by Democrats to get access to Trump’s financial documents. Neal asked for Trump’s personal and business returns from 2013-18. Democrats say it is within their mandate of congressional oversight, but the unprecedented move has been opposed by Republicans.

I thought this was only applicable if there was an underlying reason other than reeeeeeeee.

Any legal experience here know the specifics?

The law requires that the returns be provided. I know many of you think the law does not apply to Trump or to republicans, but it does.

No. The law says that they shall be provided when requested in this manner. There are no conditions in the law.

Actually there are conditions. If there is any racial bias the request can be turned down.

It will be interesting to see how SCOTUS rules in this if it gets that far.

Also, the law only provides for the House Committee to review the tax returns in a closed session, meaning Shitforbrains, Swallowswell, Mad Max, AOC, and the Fake News Mafia would not see them. Legally. Of course we would expect them to be leaked.

If I were the Dems I would careful what they wish for. Mueller had access to Trump's tax returns and made no referrals or indictments. The IRS has also had 50 years of reviewing Trump's returns and has made no accusations of impropriety. The likelihood of there being anything illegal is miniscule.

If the Dems push for the release of a person's tax returns with no evidence of wrongdoing and purely for political reasons, set the precedent, and then risk having any opponents of the party in power facing the same recourse.

You don’t want to open up this can of worms. I know you think you do but you really don’t.

emouluments violations
"The emoluments clause, also called the foreign emoluments clause, is a provision of the U.S. Constitution (Article I, Section 9, Paragraph 8) that generally prohibits federal officeholders from receiving any gift, payment, or other thing of value from a foreign state or its rulers, officers, or representatives." from Britanica.com

Has nothing to do about average Joe and Jane from Liverpool, or Joseph and Hilda from Berlin, or Joseppi and Indira from Rome, or Ivan and Natylia from Moscow, staying in a Trump hotel.

If finding such as above is a violation, then yeah John Kerry should be in jail for every bottle of Heinz Ketchup and Mustard sold overseas, and every current member of Congress who owns any shares of stock in any international corporation should be jailed too.

Thats true, and if they were to share any information in those tax returns, THEY are violating the law, so what is their point supposed to be?

Thanks Sid, and this was my point. |Let the IG request all from members of Congress, then start with all the other blatant violations with the dozens of "foundations" set up to violate the very laws put in place to prevent this nonsense.
