Third-degree murder charge dismissed against ex-Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin
LINK

quote:

A judge dismissed the third-degree murder charge Thursday against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin in connection to the death of George Floyd in May.

Hennepin County Judge Peter A. Cahill denied part of the defense’s motion, and Chauvin remains charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter.

quote:

Cahill also denied motions to dismiss the charges against the other three officers present when Chauvin was captured on video pressing his knee onto a handcuffed Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes before his death in custody. Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng, and Thomas Lane remain charged with aiding and abetting related to the incident that sparked a nationwide reckoning on racial injustice.

I didn't even know you could be charged with murder in multiple degrees. Kinda makes the degree system pointless.

ETA: For one death, obviously you can be charged in different degrees for different deaths.

He was charged for 2nd and 3rd degree murder? How is that possible? It’s not one or the other?

Once he gets acquitted of murder I hope he goes nuclear and sues every motherfricker who called him a murderer for libel and slander.

You're assuming people were rioting over George Floyd. I say that was a bad assumption. Any excuse will do.

They better make this ruling during a 6 foot blizzard if they don’t want Minny to burn.

I’m surprised this wasn’t tossed:
quote:

Cahill also denied motions to dismiss the charges against the other three officers present when Chauvin was captured on video pressing his knee onto a handcuffed Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes before his death in custody. Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng, and Thomas Lane remain charged with aiding and abetting related to the incident
