Does Mexico have any hard to reach islands? I would parachute them right into there.

We are flying them to Guadalajara in central Jalisco state.

Which is more expensive ... (1) the cost to the US for lying a person all the way from Tucson to Guadalajara, or (2) the bus ticket he buys to get back from Guadalajara to Nogales the next day?

The bus ticket back, because it's much more difficult for illegals to raise the money to pay coyotes to get here than it is for USA to fly them back. The deeper dropoff makes the journey longer and more difficult, more expensive and ultimately more of a deterrent. Then you have the new wall and you get a great system of sending them back and keeping them there.

you are mistaken. The coyote does not pick you up in Guadalajara. You hook up with him in the border states, and the cost to hire the coyote is the same, regardless of whether you come from around the block or halfway across the country.

Some do have local agents in southern Mexico, who make the initial cotact, but the potential border-crosser is almost always responsible for getting himself to the contact point in the border state.

So you have to pay them again, at multiple thousands each time, or nah?

Of course. And that cost paid to the coyote is the same, regardless of whether you start your journey in Guadalajara or five miles from downtown Juárez.

For the slower-witted amongst our readers, I am not saying not to deport them. I am saying that it is a pointless waste of money and other resources to fly them all the way to Jalisco, rather than just dumping them off a bus a mile across the border in Acuña.

Understanding the mechanics of the coyote system is “liberal?”

Just as precious as you thinking it’s easier or just as easy to illegally enter the US from Guadalarjara as it is 5 feet from the border.

Deporting then, and deporting them to a place less
advantageous, combined with Mexico’s new enforcement is a comprehensive strategy. Many pieces to make the puzzle.

Doesn't that ruin the whole "We're just poor wayfaring strangers traveling thru this world of woe" shtick?
If someone can cough up 5k cash every now and then, how difficult can their lives be in Mexico?

How many people have retained the services of a coyote within the circle of 50 acquaintances with whom you interact the most?

I have four in that group, all from San Luís Potosi (quite near Jalisco). I assure you that getting from San Luis to Juárez is the easy part of the journey, that they do not use a coyote to do it, and that the trip from San Luís to Juárez is far less expensive than the cost to the US of flying them from Tucson to Jalisco (less than $50US). No one is harassing Mexican citizens riding a bus from Jalisco to Tamaulipas.

This is objective fact.

If you get some visceral pleasure from shipping them further inland, that is a bit weird, but who am I to judge? Just realize that it is also more expensive and that the return on that expenditure is minimal.
