This last round of tariffs hit my company somewhat.

What is unfair is that they hit a chemical that only 1 US manufacturer makes and the manufacturer has a process to make it that I can not duplicate because of EPA regulations. They were grandfathered into the process and can do it. They have a virtual monopoly on US production and will now make an extra 10% on their product AND will add to their market share.

We will attempt to avoid layoffs and squeeze our Chinese suppliers.

I hope this over soon.

So the regulatory capture is unfair, not the tariffs.

It sucks when people are negatively impacted but that's the case with most policies if not all. What's best for the country as a whole may not be good for some individuals. Like welfare reform will be really bad for some people but good for us overall.

The regulatory issues are unfair BUT the multinational that manufactures this product is a very powerful company in DC and likes both the regulatory barriers to entry and the tariffs that enhance their profits.

It is a no win deal for us.

Big government, big regulations and big tariffs are all corrupting activities.

I suspect this tariff will never be rolled away given the money that supports it.

The tariffs are in fact unfair.

They certainly, if they remain in place, are not "best for the country".

Okay. So this is multifaceted corruption, and one added layer that has no ill intent towards you, inadvertently impacts you, and you claim it's unfair. Well I'd make the argument that if they aren't implemented it's even more unfair.

This is a generality and attributing motive where there may be none.

I suspect this tariff will never be rolled away given the money that supports it.

And if it is never rolled away, but the regulatory capture is repealed, will the tariff remain unfair?

No. I'll just speak of it factually instead of trying to explain it. This is logical fallacy known as an argument from consequences.

I aint crying. I am just relaying a real life example of the BS you support.

Powerful lobbying companies getting tariff protection AND regulatory protection FROM US competition--why do you support those companies??

That's just a fact of life. I'm no communist but you have to know that any policy change is going to affect people: some for better and some for worse.

Getting rid of a complicated tax code, for example, will be beneficial to a lot of Americans but will put a lot of tax preparers out of business.

This is fact that has been proven throughout in history in many countries. You want to read some examples?? Check out this list of tariffs companies with the right connections have managed to have imposed. Tariff Database--the spreadsheet is huge

Yes and the regulations will not easily disappear as the same money that wants the tariffs wants the regulations.

Tariff talk has really screwed up some megaprojects between us and China. The State has been working for years on these and now much is on hold.

Just because you think it's BS doesn't mean it's BS.
