The public does have a right to know. The public doesn’t have a right to harass anyone associated with a policeman/woman who happened to be unfortunate enough to have to shoot a civilian.

The mayor and city council focusing on this kind of stuff is why no one will ever see change in Jackson.

- public water: trash. Hasn’t been updated since the 60s

-roads: trash. They are months behind on potholes and can’t even fix brides in the nicest neighborhood in the city.

- schools: trash. If you live in Jackson and can’t afford to send your kids to private school you’re F’d

The fact that these aren’t their primary concern (along with crime) should let you know they will never fix anything or make it better.

The state of Mississippi needs to start building a wall around Jackson and turn the whole city into the state penitentiary, "Escape from New York" style.

the suburb areas are awful - just a bunch of cookie-cutter subdivisions with goofy names, big box stores and chain restaurants.

That's the definition of "suburbs".

Name 1 place in the US where this is not the case

Is there a restaurant in Madison that isn't a chain???

Nope. If you're visiting Madison, just head to the mall off of I55 and eat at PF Changs. Please

They ought to build a wall around that city and have the outdated bread trucks dump in bread everyday to feed them. Maybe the citizens outside the wall can throw over a few potatoes. De-wall in 20 years and help the survivors.

That's Ridgeland. I assume he is leaving out fast food because every town large enough to have a restaurant has chain fast food. But, I doubt that Madison's ratio of non-chain to chain varies much from most of suburbia USA. Now if you consider Georgia Blue with 3 locations or Primos with 3 locations a chain, then yeah. I guess he has a point. Also, there are some pretty impressive custom built homes in a bunch of subdivisions that are anything but cookie-cutter.

I was with you right until the end. Taking down the wall after 20 years would release the mutant badasses that survived the chaos. How about dropping a nuke inside the wall after 20 years THEN taking it down.

Is Natchez still thinking about seceding from Mississippi and joining Louisiana? I'd welcome them with open arms.

It's not. He (the dad) was from Detroit and had an American name but he became radicalized, changed his name to Chockwe and came South to establish the Republic of New Afrika (not my spelling but theirs).

I’m afraid to ask how that’s possible. Of the three cities I’ve lived in, I would say Baton Rouge has the worst traffic and New Orleans roads don’t make any sense planning wise but Jackson takes the cake when it comes to potholes and general shite quality of the roads.

I can't imagine anything worse than Jacksons. There are still clay pipes running water to some parts of the city. Most of the water lines should have been replaced decades ago, but the money was spent elsewhere. Every time.

When my wife was working on her phD from Miss State on child hood obesity, she and another phD canidate had to "survey" a very poor neighborhood in Jackson. (Just a visual survey from car). About 15 minutes into the neighbor hood a policeman pulled them over. "What the hell yall doing here?" They explained. The cop told them their survey was over and not to come back. Cops had ten phone calls in 15 minutes saying two middle age white women were either looking for drugs or men. Yeah, the major professors deemed that part of the study unimportant afterwards.

There is a fine difference in Louisiana corruption and Mississippi corruption. LA politicians will acknowledge a problem and steal the money from the funds meant to solve it. MS politicians never acknowledge the problem, there are no attempts to fix the problem (even in a half arse manner) but they will tax the hell out of people for ______ reason and steal that.

I think the DMV in the mall at Metrocenter in Jackson closed down. So, that means they are coming to a DMV near you to clog up the lines even more.

Jackson leadership is incompetent. Schools are prep for Parchman Penitentiary. The mayor in the early 2000s took out bonds to pay debts back then that are now coming home to roost 4 times over, they want to leave a dying zoo where it is instead of relocating, and on top of that, look at Pearl, where the baseball stadium is. Economic boom.
It could have re-vitalized downtown, but they didn't even try to get it there.

You, sir, have a perfect understanding of the situation

Now, apply that MS attitude over 150 separate school districts in this piss poor state. Each district has a Superintendent with an average salary of $175,000. Add a full staff to each Super and throw in all the greed and corruption that follows every organization. And people wonder why MS is so poor
