How long are we going to pay people to sit at home?

To add insult to injury, after being closed due to lockdowns, now they can’t find employees. People are getting paid more/same to stay home.

I have spoken to 7 different business owners in the past couple of weeks in various fields of basic and low skill labor and all of them have complained that they can't find employees. There is no incentive to work lower paying jobs right now.

Yikes, this is going through early September? These folks aren't going to have jobs to come back to in the fall.

I'm conflicted. My local Golden Corral for example.. they've some incompetent employees, but it works out in my favor. I order a $10 meatloaf meal, and instead of the 2 pieces of meatloaf that I normally get, there're 4 huge chunks of meatloaf. That has happened 5 times in the last 2 months. Same overflow has also happened whenever I order the pot roast meal.

I'm just saying.. I hope they stay decimated...and use incompetent employees.

Absolutely. I manage hotels and getting qualified applicants is like pulling teeth. Out of the applications I get at least 70% of them only fill out name, address, phone number, and email. They do not even bother putting in work or education history. They are completing their quota of sending out apps so they can keep receiving their government checks.

To complicate matters the amount of unemployment they are paying out is 60% higher than what these positions were making prior to being furloughed/laid off. It is next to impossible to hire someone for $4 to $6 an hour less than the government is paying them to stay home. Then with all the free money, so many people are traveling that have never traveled and have unreal expectations from our properties and then act like animals when they don't get their way.

My favorite question is "I have a reservation and I see check in time is at 3:00 PM. What happens if I can't be there at 3:00?" I don't laugh at them because at least they are being considerate and trying to make sure they do the right thing. But seriously? Let's get back to the normal traveler.

End of rant.

You might want to have a lipid panel done.

Need a phlebotomist to draw blood for labs? Wait until the stimmy runs out.
Need a CNA to wipe asses and transfer patients? Wait until the stimmy runs out.

But yeah. It’s just McDonald’s.

We're all going to see the effects of this, and it's going to suck.

Promise $15 minimum wage; legislation is a non-starter.

Pay the unemployed enough to force employers to pay far above minimum wage to attract workers.

Cut off the payouts but a de facto minimum wage increase has occurred.

that the low wage economy is often a scam.

Bright people doing the gig thing can make damn good money. Dumb people doing the gig thing will most likely stay broke.

Low wage jobs (not gig) are very temporary and if you have any work ethic or average intelligence you will improve your lot in life.

The issue is dumb people usually work these jobs and blow their money on stupid stuff, and make very little progress.
