By it's nature, the Senate is more resistant to change than the House no matter who has the majority.

It would tamp down there obstructionist nature of Washington.

It needs to be done.

That wasn't always the case.

Actually it's 50 votes plus the tiebreaker by the VP

Be careful what you wish for Max!

The Senate used to actually represent the States as well... you know, it's actual intended purpose.

I vehemently disagree. While it is used too often and should maybe be restricted in certain circumstances, the filibuster is a great tool for protecting American people from the tyranny of democracy. The purpose of the filibuster is to ensure that the minority party has power to slow down legislation to prevent wild swings in policy based on which party is in power. The idea was to force compromise and moderation to get wide consensus to pass legislation.

If the Senate is just a second version of the House, then it shouldn't exist.

We need to return to what the Senate was supposed to be, a representative of the state itself.

No for two reason

first, we can not be changing the countries laws everytime the party in power changes, that is idiocy despite the cheerleaders wishes

secondly, the less the government is able to accomplish the better off we all are.

Just think of what would never have passed if the 17th amendment was never ratified: no major entitlements like social security or Medicare, no Obamacare, no EPA, no Dept of Education, etc. Senators beholden to their State legislature vote beyond partisan concerns. States remain sovereign over the Federal government. Federalism as originally intended.

Actually it would be better for Senators to vote their conscience with their constituents in mind rather than down party lines.

You don't know what you're talking about.

Where did you hear that the Democrats were trying to stack the lower courts? It is amazing how many people believe what they hear on talk radio/tv without the slightest inclination to see if what the radio/tv charlatans are saying is true.

It is. It only takes a simple majority to pass anything in the Senate, now getting to that point is a different issue.

Obstructionism is arguably the best part of government since less is almost always more, except in the rare occasions it’s actually less (taxes).

Obama’s 2nd term was pretty good because he couldn’t do much of anything. And it’s not like Republicans are known for not having terrible policies as well.

So I think you’re somehow forgetting that government sucks.

The 17th Amendment needs to be repealed and Senators should be appointed by the state legislatures like the Founding Fathers intended.

The Senate is to conduct the business of the States, while the House is to protect the interest of the people. It's not complicated.
