The poster AlaTiger is peddling extremely misleading news in his November deficit thread

He wants you to think it is a record monthly deficit because of structural factors, when in reality, the AP makes clear what happened:
In essence- a calendar quirk
67% of the increase is due to this quirk. You can still, and SHOULD, be upset about the increasing deficit, but to call it a “record” is extremely misleading when tens of billions of dollars of that deficit increase are because December expenditures are being paid in November

quote:
In its monthly budget report, the Treasury Department said Thursday that the deficit for November was $66.4 billion higher than the imbalance in November 2017.
But $44 billion of that figure reflected the fact that December benefits in many government entitlement programs were paid in November this year because Dec. 1 fell on a Saturday.

So the deficit was $22B bigger? And it's not exactly rare for the 1st to fall on a weekend.

Instead of responding in the thread in question, you start an entirely new thread just to attack another poster.
Pretty chickenshit.

Not really. I enjoyed it.
If it’s a terrible critique then I agree. But he thoroughly destroyed his claim and it was deserving of a new thread for sure.

So what you mean to say is that last month was the highest monthly budget deficit ever, in the history of America?

Attack?
Nah, calling him out for posting a misleading thread. I love these when they happen. It will get whacked but we need more of these.

Wouldn’t this happen approximately twice every 7 years? Anytime the 1st is a saturday or sunday this would occur, so painting it as an outlier seems just as misleading as anything in the original thread.
Speaking of which, why didn’t you just post this in the original thread? Don’t see whybit warrants a seperate one.

Dems are budget hawks, conservatives turning a blind eye to running huge deficits....this is bizarro world. We are used to them dems, like T boy, being low information hypocrites...but the defense of this spending by conservatives surprises me.

You created a thread to call out a player who is correct to argue a technicality?
Maybe it’s time for you to step away for a bit.

Oh look, the leftist wants the correction buried in the lifestyle section on page 82.
Now that’s chickenshit.

Regardless of the AlaTiger diss, which frankly I couldn't care less about, the November deficit was a news angle widely reported, and obviously misleading. It was mentioned a couple of times on CNBC.
The topic definitely deserves its own thread.
