The NYT Editorial Board member on MSNBC that made math error - now complaining of racism

First off, if you haven't seen the video, here it is. Brian Williams, Mara Gay, and the entire MSNBC production team somehow had a planned segment to discuss how Bloomberg's half a billion spent on ads during the campaign would apparently be enough to "give every American one million dollars".
It was stunning that such a basic, elementary math error was able to make it on air without a correction from anyone involved.
Well, that NYT Edtior is now speaking out. And she's claiming she's now being attacked because...of racism.

The math, as a few people have pointed out, was wrong. Overnight, I had become an online sensation, and not in a good way. The video had gone viral, first shared by the right wing, and then by seemingly everyone else, too.

Across social media, right wing trolls celebrated. And some journalists did too. Most of them were men who are prolific on Twitter. (Going out and doing actual reporting? That’s harder.)
The next time they make a mistake, I hope people are nicer to them than they were to me. “How did this end up on TV?” one of them helpfully wrote, sharing the video. Unfortunately, quite a few Americans can tell you what it’s like to be the target of a Twitter mob over a gaffe. My great sin was trivial, harmless, silly. What’s it like when people are trying to cancel you for a math mistake? Weird, and maddening and painful.

I am a black woman who writes for The New York Times and appears on national TV. And if you’re black in America, no matter who you are, what you accomplish or how hard you work, there will always be people to remind you that you are black, that you are “just a ****.” A colleague at The Times, an African-American woman, wrote to me on Friday afternoon, “They resent that you exist.”

She proclaims victimhood to overcome stupidity.
Typical fail.

She wouldn’t be a democrat if she didn’t feel victimized in some way.

Four stars. Let me guess: kunt

Black or any color...you can't math...

Anybody on the left complaining about the "twitter mob" should be laughed at, then slapped, then laughed at some more.

I thought whoever did the math was a dumbass. Didn’t know it was a black woman until now.

No. If you frick up math that badly, we're NOT going to remain silent because you're black, ma'am. THAT would be the soft bigotry of low expectations.
You know what works for me? What's charming and endearing? Owning a fricking mistake.
"Hey guys, we were kind of swimming in numbers - I missed it - and it is my mistake, production missed it, the host missed it, but I made one heck of a bad decimal point math error. I will endeavor to avoid that kind of thing in the future and will review and revise my editorial process for getting that kind of thing checked by other eyes before I take numbers like that to print or air."
I would say, "That chick is going to go places."
Does she approach this level of mea culpa? Hell, no. She goes immediately, directly, "Do Not Pass Go" to the race card.
Congratulations, Mara, you're bad at math AND possess a stunning lack of self-awareness.

1) Must be nice to always have the "Muh Racism!" card in your hip pocket.
2) Personally, I took way more satisfaction over seeing Brian Williams making a total fool out of himself. At least I know who that dweeb is. This woman....excuse me....this BLACK WOMAN....is a total non-entity to me.

We are not “equal “ until we can be equally lambasted for our foibles.
I don’t point and laugh at children who get a simple thing wrong. I’m merciless when my friends do.

Lmao
You wanted equality, this is it.
Imagine if Trump made this math mistake, you telling me the liberal twitter mob wouldn't have said shite because he's a white dude?
These people live in an alternate universe.

Dumb is dumb. There is not a racial divide.

quote:this wasn’t a gaffe. They didn’t misspeak during a long winded conversation. They built a tv segment based on bad math that NO ONE on their set, the producers, the director, the camera guy, NONE were able to look at it and realize it was wrong.
Twitter mob over a gaffe
What they are really pissed about is most things they say are subjective. They are opinions and emotions that aren’t based in facts, so they always use their creative liberties to ham up the issues. Problem now, is they are objectively wrong, and weren’t close. They didn’t “forget” to move the decimal once. They proved everyone on set objectively can’t do math.
Imagine what else they are getting wrong on specific niche info like fisa courts and Washington DC proclivities that aren’t so easily to check like simple math. These people are stupid liars who are mad they’ve been objectively caught, so they’re resorting to the first page of their playbook: YOURE RACIST FOR CALLING ME OUT!!

It must be nice to have instant verbal armor against all criticism, legitimate or not.

Seemed to me most of the derision here was directed to Williams and that the woman was just a convenient foil. I didn’t even recall her race.
