If you've been paying attention, you've probably noticed that things that get play in the media are in accordance with narratives pushed down to them by the Own Nothing and Eat Bugs people.
Most likely, they want TikTok to fall into the hands of ESG entities like Blackrock. Admittedly, this is probably better than the CCP but beware of ulterior motives.

The left has benefited from the CCP's involvement in US politics. That's why it wasn't an issue for so long. The only issue now is that companies like Facebook/Meta, Google, et. al., are losing out on billions of dollars of revenue and narrative control.

Two issues regarding this. First, what a joke the testifying was. What on earth does china's stance with Uyghurs have to do with tic tok? It would be akin to chinese govt hauling Musk before a tribunal and lambasting him over SA apartheid.
Second, it never should have been allowed to flourish, but your posts are correct, it has everything to do with competition and nothing to do with security. A few years back the personnel files of thousands of govt personnel were hacked by china and not a blip on the radar screen. Since then there have been cases of chinese using these records to extort information from US govt employees and though it made international news, nothing was said in the US.
One case where a woman who worked in the state dept abroad, started dating a chinese, she was posted in Europe. Her father was dying and she had him on her medical insurance but some of the bills were not paid (all of this her chinese boyfriend knew from the stolen records). He offered to pay for a surgery, then started to blackmail her. She was an admin, but had access to sensitive records, and there you go.

The thing is that Chyna is competing against us, and the fricks in charge aren't in the game. They are even full of white guilt or paid off. It is a security thing as that is how Chyna is playing the game, as they know no one in charge understands how the tech works.
It's not even about being hacked, people need to understand how tech companies have access to everything you do on their platform. Every msg, every click, etc etc. Why the TikTok thing is important to figure out as Chyna having access isn't deniable, so letting them have it is for sure. So much is being put out there on these platforms by kids that the future politicians of this country are already in the hole.
Why NO ONE should be using clouds of other companies, but keeping all local. Google, Amazon, etc all have the ability to scan msgs to look for what they want. Ie...if a senator hauls in the Google CEO, the last thing he should do is send an aide a list of topic points via a Gmail acct, as it will without a doubt end up in the CEOs prep pile. Now we have school kids using Google products for everything and Google has profiles and millions and millions.
This nation is fricked because we can't trust what politicians are doing, because what some tech company was able to find in their system to hold over them. Tech is not our friend.

They probably want it banned because it is another popular media platform that they cannot control what messages are sent.
