What a time to be alive. The rep from St. Bernard, and the senator who represents a good chunk of St. Bernard, both of whom are my senator / rep, both on the short list for the top spots.

I'm a HUGE fan of Hewitt... she's smart as a whip and can work well with others. She will be tough but won't play any games.

As far as Ray in the house... if you want someone who is absolutely going to stand against JBE at every turn, then he is absolutely the right guy for that. But I'm not so sure how he will be able to get legislation through the house.

one thing you need to understand, nobody lives down in that part of the parish anymore. Delacroix and Hopedale used to be actual towns but now it’s just fishing camps catering to tourists

This. I feel for the fishermen and all that, and they may be right, but there aren't enough of them to have any real clout. Certainly not enough clout to offset outside pressure.

Anyone is better than Alario.

Hewitt would probably be pretty good because she’s likely in the 2023 Gov race and would want to prove how conservative she is. + she’s Ex-Shell oil so she understands the importance of the industry.

Absolutely not. I’m pretty sure McFarland has been blackballed by JBE - which means he would be perfect.

Good to know...

I’m all for allowing sports gambling, but it’s not a huge windfall for the state and local governments.

I've known Allain and Hewitt since we all attended LSU.

Bret is a good guy and pro oil and gas (dem Allain's got some swamp land dem).

Hewitt has always been a smart and no bullshite type of person.

I'm good with either of these two.

Could he push for a more pragmatic Republican like... Paula Davis?

I didn't think of her. She's already shown that she can be easily manipulated.

I know her husband and JBE have a relationship.

Hope the House veterans can provide the influence to dodge this bullet.

Perhaps, with JBE as governor, we can get maps that are not so severely gerrymandered in both the state House and Senate not to mention US House districts. I am hoping a judge will get demographers to use computer-generated districts to replace the massive gerrymanders the Repubs drew in 2011.

We know it will not bring in a bunch of money but it will bring in more than we are getting now. Of course, JBE will piss it away on freeloaders!

Garafolo is a good guy, and he plays the role of "loyal opposition" really, really, really well.

He's a classic obstructionist. That's not a bad thing when you have a liberal as governor.

He comes from the Jindal "no new taxes" which is fine but also the "no renewals of taxes, no matter what" camp which I'm not a fan of.

He's extremely disciplined and hard-lined... not at all pragmatic. Reality is, with having to deal with JBE for 4 more years, we have to depend on the legislature to push conservative fixes... but those fixes are all going to need 2/3 support. I don't know if he has the ability to push that kind of stuff.

So people get to enjoy enhanced freedoms, get to do what they voted to do, and the state comes out a bit ahead?

Not bad. But something.
Would create a few more jobs too.
And it fits in with what we have already, casinos.
