First of all, it's both dangerous and disingenuous to consider the average member of the far left deranged or mentally ill. These people know EXACTLY what they are doing and have a very specific and thought out endgame. Writing them off as deranged lunatics underestimates the threat they pose to our republic.

Second, the nonsensical dream of an entirely state run utopian society is no more "insane" than the belief that an omnipotent deity flooded the entire Earth with more water than has ever existed and bottlenecking every species down to 2 individuals 6,000 years ago. Yet I imagine the OP associates almost exclusively with people who believe the latter. The only difference is there are no real social consequences for the rest of us if you believe the latter, while enough believing the former could doom our society.

I never said you weren't, I said you probably associate largely with people who believe that and don't give it a second thought. It's simply a numbers game, you live in the deep south and a majority of people around you will believe that. I'm an atheist and nearly everyone I know and love believes it.

The point is, you don't consider those people "insane" for believing that nonsense...because they aren't. Just like a socialist isn't insane because they are a socialist. They are demonstrably wrong with regards to their worldview IMO, but they aren't insane or mentally ill.
