On r/Politics - which to be fair is very left leaning, like PT on TD does to the right- linking to a CNN op-ed (written by a dude with a single hoop earring) about Biden not coming through and paying off their college loans.

LINK

And they are still holding out hope and talking about him waiving it factoring into how they do their personal budgets.

Frickin idiots.

We should institute debtors prison instead. This would actually help society.

They haven’t had to pay for anything in two years. Add inflation and their little utopia is about to crumble.

Welcome to reality kids. You all got hoodwinked into voting for him because you saw dollar signs. You were used to put the basement dweller over the top in purple states. How does it feel? Learn this lesson, and remember to never feel this way again.

As to setting your budgets, set them with the loan payments. If they are forgiven, then you have set aside that amount, and can save it.

It’s okay, their $15/min wage will help cover the costs…

I would say they got hood-winked when they paid $100K for a useless degree.

We could also stop letting corporations and institutions such as colleges suck us dry and set our nation’s policy agenda.

Unfortunately know way too many people who bought this vote buying BS and have refused to pay their student loans at all during the forbearance period and once it kicks back in will pay the bare minimum thinking relief is on the way.

Would cost $1.6 trillion to forgive all federal student loan debt, would cost $1 trillion to forgive $50k of federal student loan debt per borrower and would still cost $373B to forgive just $10k per borrower. Yet here we are without any debt left to use at the moment and the dems are trying to ram through a $3.5T social spending bill which has already had to be cut down to $2T includes zero to do with student loans in any form of the bill)....and people think they are really are going to forgive student debt...

Lost in all this is forgiving these student loans solves absolutely nothing in terms of how we got here in the first place (the government being a huge unsecured loan bank for colleges to take advantage of)...and we'd be headed right back in the same direction in a matter of no time. The Government cant even do the PSLF program right to forgive those loans for people who work for the government for 10 years, no idea why people thought with the stroke of a pen wipe out a trillion or more of student debt.

This is my issue with any forgiveness proposal. If we can put something together to make colleges responsible for this debt and/or restructure college administrative bloat that has lead to where we are now, I'd be willing to talk.

If you're not a medical doctor, how in the frick do you have college debt?

I grew up poor as frick. Served my time in the military. Got a 4 year degree on my GI bill and working part time and then a masters completely on my own dime. Paid for it myself even while I was making journeyman salary.
