The issue I have with this whole “privilege” thing going around lately.

Video
In this video, we have a guy trying to demonstrate to kids what “privilege” means. He begins by offering up money for the winner of this race, which in turn represents life. He tells the kids:
Take two steps forward if your parents are still married
Take two steps forward if you grew up with a father figure in your home
Take two steps forward if you had access to a private education
Take two steps forward if you had access to a free tutor growing up
Take two steps forward if you’ve never had to worry about your cell phone being shut off
Take two steps forward if you’ve never had to help mom or dad with the bills
Take two steps forward if it wasn’t for your athletic ability you don’t have to pay for college
Take two steps forward if you’ve never worried about where your next meal was going to come from
He then gets them to race, and of course the blacks in the back were last to finish, and he made sure to make a point of that by saying if it were an even race, the blacks would smoke the white kids.
The issue I have is that it’s called “privilege” in the first place rather than “blessed” and there is a difference in that privileged tends to convey that the having two parents, a father figure, and economic blessing in the most wealthy and economically blessed nations in the history of mankind is a privilege rather than a blessing, because the norm is now having a screwed up home life and poor upbringing. The norm is making poor life decisions, and those who had good parents and a happy home life should be ashamed.
That’s the message I’m getting, and rather than being grateful for what you have, which I would say is very important for everyone to be fully”woke” to, as they like to say, It is almost demonizing being blessed.
Instead, the message to society should be to illustrate WHY it’s important for there to be a nuclear family with two parents who are married, a positive father figure in the home, taking advantage of the many opportunities we all have in receiving an education that others have already paid for, and taking advantage of all the many job opportunities available to anyone with the desire to take advantage of and better yourself and your family. But that isn’t the message being conveyed. It’s shaming of people who’s parents actually DID make wise life decisions, and pittying those who didn’t, and that does absolutely NOTHING to fix the problems plaguing the black communities, and many in the white community too these days. It simply glosses over the real life lessons we should be getting, and demonizes those who are blessed to grow up in a normal functioning family in America.

Do it again. Maybe you lose this time, because that seems to be the goal.

Nah...but I'm a living example of why that "race" is bullshite.

He forgot:
"Take two steps forward if you are a powerful Hollywood mogul."
"Take two steps forward if you are a powerful Hollywood mogul."

Huh, I simply took issue with the completely obvious fact that using the term "white privilege" is actually racist, and left it at that.

I feel like the "privilege" debate has really devolved into stupidity. On the one hand, people shouldn't be made to feel guilty over "privileges" that, by definition, are beyond their control. On the other hand, a lot of people truly live in a bubble and need to become more self-aware.
Being born into a nuclear family of middle class wealth in the US puts you ahead of most of the world's population at birth. Hard to argue that.

There’s no question about that, but it’s simply a result of doing the right things, and that’s really what needs to be the major point, and yet it’s not. It’s ignored.

This is so Germans, it's not even German anymore. It's fricking Austro-Hungarian.

Plenty of whites couldn't take two steps forward for any of these. Making it black-white is racist against black people because the underlying premise is that black people are inherently incapable of making responsible life decisions.
That's not even getting into a FREE tutor. I never heard of anyone getting that service for free.

So what’s the take a way, I should be penalized because my dad stuck around and taught me how to be a productive member of society and a good husband and father when I grew up?

The white kids had to run? I thought they could just walk straight to the winners circle with that kind of privilege.

Well, if it is a foot race, shouldn't the whites get a headstart to make this fair?

What about adding,
Take two steps back if you waited to have kids until you were emotionally ready
Take two steps back if you chose to spend money on food and school for your family before tobacco, drugs and alcohol for yourself
Take two steps back if your first stop on payday is the casino
Take two steps back if you ever posted a picture of yourself and SO and a bottle of courvoisier

Normal = privilege
Anything less than normal is no longer considered behind, but rather the basis by which things should be measured. Instead of people striving to better themselves and their families, they are berating others for having a normal life.

How is it bullshite? At the core of the video, some folks have advantages in life over others. That's not bullshite, that's life. Doesn't mean the less fortunate ones can't prosper, just that everyone isn't equal.
