While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for The Hunt, after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film, ” a spokesperson for Universal said in a statement. “We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film.”

For those of you who are upset over this, just go rent Surviving The Game and you get the same thing basically. I have been shaking my head over this controversy as movies like this have been out for years.

Polling said this was a bad look for Dems.

I suggest The Pest with John Legiozamo

But this one in particular had a political element. It was basically elite libs hunting deplorables because of their views.

I get that but by the same token Surviving The Game had a black homeless man targeted so I figured The Hunt was just a lesser trade off than what was already out there.

They’ll release it in the future.

I guess the population of black homeless men has slightly less marketing clout.

Well, that will just make it more popular. Like The Manchurian Candidate when it was banned after JFK's death.

If Obama was still president they’d have no problem releasing it
Obama would support it with some sick statement
Actually this is exactly how KKK started is by eliminating republican blacks and whites in south

Damn
Hopefully they don’t wait too long.

The screenplay was called Blue State vs Red State.
Guess that was too much for Universal....

The KKK actually started as a paramilitary guerrilla warfare resistance group during reconstruction because confederate veterans and those who had served in confederate governments were forbidden from voting. Because of the draft and women not getting the right to vote until the early 20th century, virtually no whites were allowed to vote in the South from 1865-1877 except for those who were under the age of 15 in 1865. That meant the only people allowed to vote until 1877 were that younger generation, the Yankee carpetbagging class that came in and bought up the old plantations for pennies, and the freed blacks.
The vast majority of the population was not allowed to vote! It took roughly a decade for enough whites to come of age for the whites to start approaching 50% of the electorate again. This culminated in the Battle of Liberty Place. The Republican candidate (supported by freed blacks and carpetbaggers) narrowly defeated the democrat (supported by the Klan). There were allegations of massive voter fraud and corruption, leading to the White League (read KKK) taking up arms and marching on New Orleans and storming Liberty Place (the state capital at the time). The NOPD and the Federal Troops laid siege to the building as the White League fought them Alamo style. The streetcar operator union aligned with the White League and used the street cars as redoubts for the white league militants to hide behind. After great blood shed, the insurrection was put down, and the republican administration was allowed to take power again. However, the cost and pr was so great that the federal government decided they had to pull their troops out of the South. The democrats won the following election, eliminated the restrictions on voting by confederate veterans, and then began systematically eliminating the rights of freed blacks to vote.
The Klan began due to legit injustice and oppression of the occupied populace, and when they took power back, they predictably flipped that oppression in the opposite direction.
So long as hate is returned with hate, the pendulum will continue to swing and the cycle of bigotry and oppression will continue. Dr. King was right when he said that we must forgive our oppressors so as not to become them. That part of his message was predictably ignored by those who wanted vengeance and equity rather than equality.

We need a movie where taxpayers hunt "sponsors" who steal from taxpayers.

Supposedly from the movie.
Gimpette?

Except it doesn’t. In any events the ones getting hunted end up killing the elite hunters. This was nothing more than a modern retelling of The Most Dangerous Game.

Why do we even give movies this kind of power? So dumb.

They’ll change the bad guys to be North Vietnamese like they did with the Red Dawn remake.
