The fact all House Dems voted Schexnayder for Speaker tells me Mack was the better choice

Not like it matters anyway, this state’s politics are fricked. Just found it telling that all the Dems rallied behind Schexnayder.

Yeah, JBE fixed his mistake from last time. Instead of pushing a candidate, he just sat back and chose sides. Now he owns the speaker..and thus the committee chairs and memberships.
I am really curious if we see a speakership challenge in the next 4 years.

It is amazing the republicans in this state cannot get their shite together
Posted on 1/13/20 at 11:47 am to toosleaux
Those RINOs who helped democrats get their preferred toady in place should have conservative challengers next election.
Republicans helping democrats get the toady they want is an absolute betrayal of voters who wanted conservative control of the statehouse, not JBE having a RINO toady that's malleable to him.
Louisiana just cannot get out of its own way.

I tried to write it down, but is there a list online somewhere yet? Any new republicans (other than fricking Francis Thompson)?

Clay will have a hell of a time making peace with the conservative majority after he begged JBE for help in getting the Speaker slot.
He lost 45-23 amongst republicans.

When people ask how a horrible governor like JBE can be reelected in such a "red" state...this is why. The GOP in Louisiana only have the "R" after their name to get elected and then legislate as democrats. Why do they do it? Because they can.

Exactly. Now does he put some of those in charge of key committees (Appropriations, Ways and means, education, House and Government-with redistricting duties)?
Or does he solidify his "base" and reward his supporters?
Honestly if he is smart, he consolidates his support.
We will know soon about the committees.

Stuart Bishop nominated Clay.
Tanner Magee is Pro Tem.
They should be losers next election.

Hayride is floating rumor that Clay will give democrats as many as 7 of the 16 chairmanships.
If that's true, then that's absolutely infuriating and a Speaker challenge should be brought forward in short order, with a much better candidate than Sherman Mack I might add.
People voted for conservative control of the statehouse, democrats should get zero chairmanships.

No way is that true. If anything it's a false flag so 5 or 6 doesn't look so bad.
Of course a speakership challenge doesn't matter if the same system for electing a speaker doesn't change. Without party discipline it won't matter other than to build up pressure on the RINOs.

This is last year’s Senate all over again. I guarantee at least one committee will be majority Dem, it’s just a matter of which.
This is a damn travesty for our state. Schexnayder and Bishop should be ashamed of themselves.

As I take what you say on these issues seriously, I am now very sad. That would be a travesty.

I am not shocked by that blowhard Bishop. A little surprised by Schexnayder.
REALLY surprised by Garafalo. He was part of the fiscal hawks.

Just someone looking at it from the outside of the R and D camps.
Rs have 27 of 39 seats in the senate.
Rs have 68 of 105 seats in the house.
Both have been under the control of Rs for the last 12 years.
Every statewide elected official besides the governor has been an R for the last 4 years and will be for the next 4 years.
The governor was an R for 8 years before JBE.
At what point do we stop scapegoating JBE and Ds? Seems like anything that happens you don’t like, it’s Ds or RINOs that cause it. If we have issues in 4 years, will anyone be willing to blame the 95% of the Rs who run the Capitol or will it still be Ds fault?
Just asking.

This is a good example as to why I laughed at the so called conservatives who justified a vote for Edwards because the state legislature would "stop him".
That and Edwards will be a one termer anyway nonsense ignoring the fact that incumbents are hard to remove and the GOP might not have a candidate capable of winning and you'll be stuck with Edwards for 8 years.
Those two reasons were complete bullshite.
They hated Vitter so much they ignored reality about how politics works in this state and it absolutely matters who the Governor is and which party he's from.
Lesson here, elections have consequences and elections are about tending to your political and financial interests, not stupid things like a short sighted temper tantrum.

If 40% of Republicans side with the Democrats why should the 60% of Republicans get blamed?
Why SHOULDN'T the blame be on the Dems and 40% Reps who actually run the capitol along with the governor?

Here's someone who has absolutely no clue about how many democrats in Louisiana slap an R next to their name to win elections and then govern and vote like a democrat.
We still have a lot of work to do to weed those frauds out.

Just a rumor I’m sure that’s not true.
Meh, I really can't blame them too much about that. It's LSU, I would be using whatever influence I had to attend too.
I am far more upset by giving the democrats the keys to the kingdom.

A Bible verse comes to my mind:
"So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth."
