The 3d scan shows where certain nerves are in relation to the teeth that need to be extracted. You cant tell that with a single plane xray. If the nerve is close, and he damages it during your ext, you will not be happy.

Doc can explain it better than me

this is BS.

you don't need a 3D pano to do extractions...and is only "helpful" with implants.

that dentist prolly got bamboozled into spending 80K on an unneeded toy and is trying to generate $$$ to pay back the loan.

We are doing everything the same at our practice except now asking patient covid questions and taking their temps. We also have N-95 masks. But patients have always been protected from the dentist. The only difference now is we have to protect ourselves from the patient

It is not bullshite at all. First of all a pano is NOT 3-D. A pano is a 2D image. A CBCT (cone beam CT scan) is a 3-D image. Both show vastly different things.

.ask what is the purpose of this "special mouthwash

Peroxide based mouthwash (supposedly) will "deactivate" the virus. Not kill it, but I think prevention attachment to surfaces.

I have no idea if true or not, but we've been using them since all thisshit started.

they had on masks all the time (we all did) then the protective hard plastic guard. on the other question; my dental insurance got better so they pay for all the xrays (I think) but why so many xrays for teeth surely being extracted?

For 3rds, it is absolutely neccesary. Probably not for anterior teeth. And I'll defer to the docs on the board for the molars. Sometimes our surgeons request it, other times they dont.

No it is not hydrogen peroxide it is Peridex aka chlorhexidine gluconate. It COULD cut down on bacteria/viruses but again just something to protect your dentist from you during all the aerosols.

Need x-rays to see where one of the major nerves are that can cause permanent paresthesia/numbness to your face (if extracting a lower tooth). and if it is an upper we need to see where your maxillary sinus is, especially if placing an implant. If we were to just place an implant in your sinus that would be bad...X-rays are SUPER important. It is like asking a doctor to tell you what organ your cancer is in without taking imaging.

definitely need a pano for Oral surgery.. but that's it imo.

it takes 15 minutes to do a sinus lift and maybe 10 minus to flap a sinus and grab that jiggly implant.

also, iirc, most parethesias are from sharp instrument trauma (scapels-making a "bat" instead of a "hockey stick" and directly infilration the IAN with 4% septocaine.

biggest blocks always for providers is fear.

does the n95 mask protect you?
..especially around all those aerosols?

Also Had to swish special mouthwash before anyone would touch me. They made me clean my mouth before they cleaned my mouth, in essence.
me too me too. she said did you listerine yet I was like what, she pointed to the little paper cup and I had to do a listerine rinse. I thought I had bad breath

then after an extraction she said go do the listerine I was like okay wtf. I obeyed and said wait didn't I just cause dry socket by rinsing after an extraction?

with an air purifying machine the regular masks work great you can breath no reading glasses fogging up or anything. In the waiting room the masks sucked. And everybody had masks on. I tried using a cloth mask Humana sent me free and it sucked, was hot and can't breath.
