I've travelled too much in my career to not call bullshite here. Go to Myanmar or Guatemala for a week and then come talk to me about how "3rd world" Alabama is.

Im in India now. You can't even open your mouth in the shower and they have a rampant public defecation problem here. Give me the projects of BHam any day.

So the purpose of your thread was merely to troll. You got some of us with this bullshite. Probably your best accomplishment this month

Sounds like you are the one that is mad by linking a year old study by the UN about Alabama.

The projects in Bham aren't the areas of Alabama they're referring to. Get out into the sticks in the Black Belt or on Sand Mountain and it can resemble some conditions in some 3rd world countries. Is it as bad as the worst conditions in 3rd world countries? Not even close, but it is similar to some of the conditions in some 3rd world countries.

No. It's not.

Talk to me when you've been through slums in Cambodia where people eat garbage, or have seen children walking miles to work in slavelike conditions in the canefields of Mozambique.

You don't have to like red Alabama's politics, but the OP is a fricking first class idiot selling an idea that should be preposterous to any reasonably well travelled individual.

Like I said, you're bringing up the worst of the worst conditions in certain 3rd world countries.

Oh there is much worse out there. The fact remains that the suggestion that conservative politics have rendered Alabama to third world status is deserving of this level of mockery, especially from people whose experience in third world countries is limited to spring break in Cozumel.

I think you mean pre-1960s. Also, that has nothing to do with this discussion, but you probably knew that.

You’re far underestimating how bad off all those 3rd world countries actually are. The average HDI (Human Development Index) of an Alabama county is about an 0.82 which falls firmly in the developed region. Well above developing countries (2nd world) and FAR FAR above any 3rd countries (0.6 and below).

Not really, Doc. Here are the latest figures.

And Italy is basically the Alabama/Arkansas of Europe.
