So if the Texas officials are serious about this, why not deputize the landowners who are willing to step up?

DEL RIO, Texas—After receiving a deluge of calls from concerned citizens, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) issued an information sheet outlining the laws regarding use of force and illegal immigration for citizens, private property owners, and law enforcement. “Hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens are pouring over our border,” Paxton said in a statement on Jan. 25. “They are temporarily detained—if at all—before being released, and then make their way through your counties, cities, and property. They bring with them property destruction, theft, financial costs, risks of disease, crime, and the cartels.”

Border Patrol agents apprehended 1.3 million illegal aliens at the Texas-Mexico border in 2021. Hundreds of thousands more are estimated to have evaded capture. These individuals end up being smuggled in vehicles or walking through ranchland to evade law enforcement. Ranchers and citizens have expressed frustration during the past year about being left to fend for themselves as their properties are damaged and their families are placed in danger. They often want to know what they can do, including using force. “We sympathize with the fears and desperation that Texans feel during these unprecedented times, but the use of force is a serious response that will likely lead to the actor being subjected to the criminal justice system, with very little predictability of the outcome,” Paxton’s document states.

Paxton said he prepared the information to help arm Texans with the “basic legal concepts to consider as Texans face these unprecedented challenges,” but makes the caveat that it’s not formal legal advice.

At any point in history, has a nation ever told its citizens to let foreign invaders overrun their land?

This shite is just evil and feels orchestrated at every level.

Landowners blasting illegals and leaving them in shallow graves would do more to inhibit the invaders than the INS.

Well, some British and French towns would actually pay the Vikings not to pillage them.

Those border land owners cannot fight this. Especially without the help of our government. The sad truth is they will be killed. I know it's hard to believe, and it sucks, but our Potato-n-chief has left them on an island with no options.

I can’t put my finger on it, but I remember someone talking about the rapists and murderers coming over from Mexico? People should have listened to that guy

Citizens have a right under our constitution and laws to protect our border; even when our president (executive branch) won't!

Surely Texas has very strict laws regarding Trespassing on private property. I believe Texas only requires the No Trespassing signs on the corners of the property.

Ranchers need perimeter trained hounds, i.e., Rottweilers, Doberman Pinschers, German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, etc., that they can drop off near the area where there drone last spotted the TRESPASSER!

Word will travel fast.

In that part of the state, anything can happen and nobody will know. The number of sheriff's is pitifully low. Like maybe 2 or 3 covering an area the size of Rhode island. If a rancher decided to kill an illegal on their property, nobody would come looking.

The truth is that many Texans along the border are intertwined with Mexico. There isn't a hostile viewpoint of people coming over the border, because they interact with those people on a daily basis and may have family that still lives in Mexico. So it isn't the clear border dividing people of different cultures.

Instead, it is viewed as a burden on resources, as they don't have much money to provide for these people. As far as humanitarian issues, there are numerous blue barrels stationed within 50 miles of the southern border that provide potable water for illegal border crossers. There are ladders along fences that allow them to cross without cutting fences every 300 yards or so.

Texas isn't without understanding of the plight of illegals, and I doubt anyone wants to kill them. We simply want more protection to keep these vulnerable people from making the voyage, because once they do, we have to take care of them as humans.

That being said, Hispanic Texans and ranchers in the area will have no problem eliminating problematic individuals from the life scoreboard and say nothing about it.
