See my numerous posts in multiple threads. Basically I'm being paid full salary to not work. Great for now, although if it goes on beyond around mid-January I'll start to get really bored.

I'm a federal contractor in the DC area and my contract calls for me to continue to receive pay during a shutdown. So I'm relaxing near a ski resort in West Virginia.

Probably for most of the US the impact will be that federal grant money isn't getting paid on time. A big deal if you're caught up in that, but probably not if you aren't.

I like when the fed workers reveal themselves. Makes it easy to figure out who to believe. Or who not to believe? Dammit. Help me understand, joshuachamberlain

It caught me off guard. I'm short of food and medicine. I need to go and restock, but the dust and smoke from all the explosions has me hunkerin' down. Hopefully, by late afternoon tomorrow, all the buzzards and vultures, feeding on all the dead bodies, will provide enough cover for me to get out and back. Wish me luck.

Really? Are any of the monuments and memorials closed at the National Mall? Obama said those closures were not “personal.”

I have to hear about the Schumer shutdown every time the news comes on. This is awful. Not sure I'll be able to survive this.
